Disney- The workplace of dreams
It was when I was watching ‘Aladdin’ that I realized that one day I would want to work at Disney and I have MICA to thank for taking me to this magical place. In the summer of 2018, I interned at Disney India in Mumbai. I worked with the Studio Marketing team, a team that works on Disney’s movie promotion and marketing across India.
To my good fortune, the summer of 2018 saw some of the biggest blockbusters from the Disney-Pixar, Marvel and Lucas Films franchises. I got a chance to get my hands dirty working on Black Panther, Avengers — Infinity Wars, Solo: A Star Wars Story and Incredibles 2. It was a ride I wish never came to an end.
The pedagogy at MICA helped me immensely during my internship. Subjects like Semiotics and Media Planning helped me understand the nuances of how a movie is marketed in different regions in India. Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methodology helped me develop better insights on what people are watching across the different diversities of India. Digital Marketing and Analytics helped me understand how Disney’s content is consumed online to understand our target audience better. To wrap it all up, this internship gave me a clear idea into the media industry and is an important factor due to which I am pursuing Media as a specialization in my second year.
To top it all, Disney sent us to watch the watch ‘Aladdin’, a Live Action Musical which brought back so many memories of my childhood, who believed that a dream of just wanting to be at The Happiest Place on Earth could actually come true.
