Dems to Iden: Will You Accept Election Results or Follow Trump?

LANSING — The Michigan Democratic Party today demanded that state Rep. Brandt Iden (R-Oshtemo) tell voters if he will accept the election results on Nov. 8 — or instead follow the lead of his Republican Party presidential nominee, Donald Trump, who refused to say whether he will accept the Election Day outcome.

During the third presidential debate in Las Vegas, on Wednesday, moderator Chris Wallace of Fox News asked Trump if he would accept the results of the election in light of allegations he’s made — without evidence — that the process is “rigged.” Trump refused to say he’d accept the election’s results: “What I’m saying is that I will tell you at the time. I’ll keep you in suspense. OK?”

At an Ohio campaign stop on Thursday, Trump once again refused to say he would accept losing the election, instead stating that he would “totally accept the results of this great and historic presidential election — if I win.”

“In an effort to make excuses for when he loses and to foment unrest among his supporters, Donald Trump is undermining the election process and the very foundation of our democracy,” said Brandon Dillon, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party. “The citizens of the 61st District deserve to know if Brandt Iden will stand by his Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, by refusing to pledge that he will accept the Nov. 8 election results. We know Iden wholeheartedly supports Trump, since he served as a Trump delegate to the Republican National Convention. And while it’s clear that Iden is out of touch with his constituents in Portage, Oshtemo and Texas Twp., he should be honest with them if he plans to go down this dangerous path with demagogue Donald Trump when it comes to harming our elections.”
