LANSING — The Michigan Democratic Party released the following statement today, on behalf of Party Chair Brandon Dillon, regarding House Republican-sponsored bills that will drastically cut the retiree health care benefits of Michigan police officers, firefighters, and other public service employees:

“Every citizen in Michigan should be absolutely outraged at this Republican attack on the hard-earned retirements of our first responders,” said Brandon Dillon, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party. “Only a few weeks ago, Republican legislators were looking these very men and women in the eye and asking for their vote, and now, after they can no longer be held accountable at the ballot box, they want to break the promises that were made for years of faithful service to our communities.”

“Michigan Democrats stand four-square behind the police officers and firefighters of this state as they fight to protect the health care and retirement benefits they rightfully earned for their sacrifice and service. The Republicans controlling our state’s Legislature should immediately abandon this shameful attack on the livelihoods of the very men and women we count on day in and day out to protect our communities and keep our families safe.”
