MDP Demands Romney McDaniel Reveal Role in RNC’s Voter Intimidation Efforts

LANSING — Today, the Michigan Democratic Party demanded that Michigan Republican Party Chair Ronna Romney McDaniel immediately reveal her role, as a member of the Republican National Committee, in widespread Republican efforts to intimidate voters. Romney McDaniel has been ordered by a federal judge to disclose, under oath, voter intimidation efforts in Michigan.

On Monday, a federal judge in New Jersey issued a shocking order for discovery pertaining to Trump campaign and Republican voter intimidation efforts. The case is Democratic National Committee v. Republican National Committee, №81–03876. Oral arguments are scheduled for Friday, November 4, just four days before Election Day.

The DNC has filed a motion to hold the RNC in contempt for alleged violations of a 1982 consent decree. That decree was put in place after the RNC agreed to curb its so-called “poll-watching tactics” following a New Jersey gubernatorial election in which African-American voters were intimidated at the polls.

“It is beyond concerning that the chair of the Michigan Republican Party, Ronna Romney McDaniel, has been singled out in this order to disclose voter intimidation efforts by Republicans and the Trump campaign in Michigan. McDaniel must immediately tell the public what she’s done to try to stop voters from exercising their Constitutional right to the ballot. Ronna Romney McDaniel should be condemning Trump’s racist voter intimidation tactics, not embracing them. Instead, a federal judge is now ordering McDaniel to disclose, under oath, what involvement she’s had in voter intimidation efforts in Michigan,” said Brandon Dillon, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party.

Here is the entire section about McDaniel in the order:

“5. An affidavit or affidavits by a person or persons with personal knowledge setting forth in detail the efforts of RNC member, Ronna Romney McDaniel, to prepare a massive statewide anti-voter fraud effort in Michigan. D.E. 96–19. The person(s) shall be an agent, servant, or employee of Defendant. The affidavit(s) shall set forth all material terms of any such efforts, including any geographic areas which are being targeted for the anti-voter fraud efforts and the reason(s) for targeting those areas. The affidavit or affidavits should also address why Ms. Romney McDaniel’s efforts, if any, are not on behalf of the RNC[.]”
