MDP Statement on Complaint Against Snyder for Using Taxpayer Dollars to Fund Criminal Defense

LANSING — The Michigan Democratic Party released the following statement today, on behalf of Party Chair Brandon Dillon, regarding the complaint, filed Tuesday, requesting a grand jury investigation into Gov. Rick Snyder’s use of at least $2 million in taxpayer funds for his legal defense related to criminal probes of the Flint water crisis:

“Citizens of our state, like Keri Webber, have been forced to bear the burden of holding this governor accountable because the Republican-controlled legislature refuses to do its job,” said Brandon Dillon, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party.

“Rather than fighting for Michigan families and protecting their hard-earned tax dollars from being stolen by Rick Snyder for his criminal defense, Michigan Republicans have enabled him and shielded him from accountability. We applaud Ms. Webber for standing up to Rick Snyder and demanding that he stop taking taxpayer funds to defend himself, especially when that money could be going to help the people of Flint whose lives he’s already damaged.”
