Schuette ‘Goes to Bat for ExxonMobil’ But Refuses to Protect People with Pre-Existing Health Conditions
A new report from Bridge Magazine today is detailing how Attorney General Bill Schuette “goes to bat for ExxonMobil,” and “recently signed onto a court filing that questions the scientific consensus about the causes of climate change.”
In contrast, Schuette has refused to join seventeen other state AG’s who are standing up to the Trump Administration’s ongoing attempt to rip healthcare away from people with pre-existing health conditions.
This comes as Schuette is trying to claim he will protect coverage for people with pre-existing health conditions, even though he spent years joining lawsuits to rip their coverage away. There are more than four million people with pre-existing health conditions in Michigan, according to one report.
In addition to this court filing to support ExxonMobil, Schuette has also recently used his office to defend the Koch Brothers in California and attack Planned Parenthood in Ohio.
“Bill Schuette will bend over backward to protect out-of-state special interests, but is refusing to protect healthcare for people with pre-existing health conditions in Michigan,” said Michigan Democratic Party Spokesperson Sam Newton. “Schuette needs to explain to the four million Michiganders with pre-existing health conditions why he is refusing to join the fight to protect their healthcare.”
