State Senate Republicans Pass Bill to Codify Citizens United, Allow More Dark Money in Michigan Elections

LANSING — The Michigan Democratic Party issued the following statement today, on behalf of Party Chair Brandon Dillon, regarding Republican passage of Senate Bill 335, which would amend the Michigan Campaign Finance Act to codify Citizens United type campaign finance law at the state level:

“When do you ever hear people say we need more money in politics, let alone more dirty money? You don’t, ever, but Republicans don’t listen to people, they listen to their big money bosses, like Dick and Betsy DeVos. The Republican obsession with bringing Citizens United to Michigan is another act of a party under the control of corporations and wealthy donors. We need political reform in our state, not more Republican political corruption.”
