The song, Kiss Me Thru The Phone, was popular back when I was just the ripe old age of 13. It was an important song in my life at the time because it really taught kids my age what modern romance truly was. Basically, what he was saying was, even though he is unable to be in his female partner’s presence at the time, it was okay because he will still participate in the act of kissing her through the phone. Soulja Boy expresses this by saying…

Girl you know I miss you
I just wanna kiss you
But I can’t right now so baby kiss me thru the phone

True modern romance to say the least.

Fifteen by Taylor Swift is one of the songs that got many girls, like me, through their freshman year of high school during the years 2008 and 2009. The day before I went into high school I was extremely nervous because it was an intimidating change, especially for me since I had been home schooled my whole life prior to 9th grade. Although I was obsessed with the song, I was a little bit let down after the first day because this song gave false expectations about a senior boy being interested in me.

It’s your freshman year and you’re gonna be here
For the next four years in this town
Hoping one of those senior boys will wink at you and say
“You know, I haven’t seen you around before”

So thank you Taylor Swift for yet again giving us teenage girls false expectations of what the dating scene will be like.

As if being a teenager isn’t enough reason to do stupid things, Drake and Lil Wayne were kind enough to bless us young adolescence with a song that would justify our outrageous acts of stupidity. The idea that they portrayed through this song is “you only live once”.

You only live once: that’s the motto nigga, YOLO

So why not live life to the fullest like Drizzy and Weezy?
