The Truth About The Alt-Right: A Destruction by Facts and Logic
A Long Introduction:
This article may come several years too late, but at the same time may be more relevant than ever. What we see now is the fruits of many years of careful planning. While much of what I will discuss has been happening since the early 90’s and before, we are seeing its culmination in current global politics. Many people have written on the subject of the alt right, who funds them, what social and economic factors brought about their existence, what psychological profiling can be applied to them. I would like to discuss the alt right in terms of its being the product of a cohesive and complex propaganda operation, which in fact encompasses several different large scale propaganda operations, going back many years, long before the alt right was a term or concept.
The influence of these propaganda operations, carried out by bodies almost exclusively tied up in the state and capital, created the illusion of an ‘alternative’ media that appears anti establishment but is in fact a staunch defender of the global ruling class and indeed was created by that class and is of that class. These propaganda operations represent the online frontier of the new/old cold war. The alt right are its willing soldiers, and though many of them work for free, a great number earn extremely large salaries.
In this article I will discuss the roots of the alt right, the connection of those roots to intelligence agencies, in particular the CIA, but also Russian and British intelligence. I will also discuss the connection of those roots and the intelligence agencies to the state and capital, how these roots became the alt right, and how those connections endured and bloomed. I will also situate this particular propaganda campaign in the context of the wider subversive propaganda employed by capital, intelligence agencies and the far right, particularly with regards to online culture.
To begin I will attempt place the alt right ideologically, so excuse me for pointing out some things which might seem basic, I do this to give context. The alt right, like the right of old , rehabilitate the image of their heroes, Mussolini, Adolf Hitler, Julius Evola, all the greats. These are however all people who historically defended capital and the establishment — The System — under the guise of anti capitalist and anti establishment rhetoric.
In fact their respective fascist and national socialist movements were originally funded and controlled for the most part by German, British, American, French and Italian capital, specifically as a way to oppose the left and thus prop up capital. When we are talking about far right ideas, we are, by definition, talking about ideas which serve to cut off the better off working class base from the left in the service of capital. Those are the ideas in and of themselves. Indeed, even as far back as Evola and the original Nazis we see the influence of intelligence services- but more on that later. When we look at the manner in which these ideas have grown and proliferated in recent times on the internet, we see that it is also capital and capital’s lapdog agencies who have cultivated this culture.
Fascist ideas have a natural base, the socially reactionary elements of the working class, combined with the petit-bourgeois, (and of course the bourgeois proper). This base is full of contradictions and we see this play out regularly. Without state and corporate backing, these groups differing class interests tend to undo the cohesion required to form an effective political bloc. It is only with the leadership of the grand bourgeois that they are able to cohere.
Reactionary ideas are a milieu, they combine elements of many and various cultural cliques. You will find on the alt right those whose main ideological conviction is their belief in the subjugation of women, all other ideas come as incidental to that. You will also find those who believe in extremist liberal interpretations of capitalist ideology, the ‘anti state’ libertarians or anarco- capitalists. You will find Jewish World Order believers. You will find economical apathetics who hold reactionary views about immigrants. You will find people who just hate none whites. You will find pagan national socialists, you will find christian fundamentalist and outright Zionist groups. You will also find satanists, radical Islamists. You will find mystics and alien conspiracy theorists. Esoteric Fascist Vegan Buddhists. Traditionalists.Pizza Gate and Q anon believers. Alex Jones fans. You will find many who are just in it to be edgy or ‘for the lulz’. You -will find many run of the mill traditional conservatives, and many outright liberals. You will find huge crossover between all of these groups.
We might think of fascism, not only as the capital base in decay, but as capitals attempt to unite all of these superstructural reactionary cultural interests into a cohesive cause. Capital presents the central corruptions from which all their perceived issues stem: moral degeneracy, the left, the immigrants, and if you go far enough, the Jews, or still further, ‘magian society’ (the Jews). They also present the solution to the corruption: get rid of the left. Who makes up the majority of the global working class? Non white people. Who holds the majority of capital? White people. White men specifically. Although China is giving them a run for their money and white women are increasingly coming to be accumulators of capital. Who makes up the majority of the global reactionary elements of the working class and petit-bourgeois and bourgeois proper therefore?
This is the fascist base. Those who benefit from capitalism to a greater degree than the majority of the population, or those who perceive themselves to do so. A very large and diverse group of people in the neo-liberal era, even within its general whiteness. There is certainly a degree of none whiteness to its make up and increasingly so. Small wonder then, the defence of ‘whiteness’ encompasses so many different, opposing white identities, as whites are extremely prone to opposing each other. What unites the fascists then is only two things, their perceived white identity, regardless of pigmentation, and their ownership or perceived easily realisable aspirational ownership of capital, were it not for the left getting in the way. Even ideological misogynists are united with white women in their whiteness some of the time. What therefore does capital present as the solution to the the problem of this mostly non white international organised working class, without much or any aspiration of property ownership? Why of course, white nationalist capitalism without the mostly brown organised working class, and their white working class race traitor allies.
We cannot talk about the alt right, without talking about the man who claims to have coined the phrase way back in 2007¹. Richard Spencer is most famous perhaps for shouting ‘Heil Trump’ while doing a roman/Nazi salute at an alt-right conference in Washington. He is primarily an ideologue, well educated and well spoken, he has appeared frequently on podcasts and YouTube channels, as well as giving lectures and speaking tours.
In 2011 he began an online magazine, alternativeright.com, and took over the National Policy Institute, a white identity think tank. His publications continued to gather attention in formative alt right circles, until Donald Trump threw himself behind the alt-right and Spencer threw his support behind Trump, turning him into one of the worlds most well known racists almost over night. Spencer then became a key figure on the Trump campaign circuit. While there are no intelligence links that I can see, Spencer’s mother Sherry Spencer (Dickenhorst) is the heiress to a number of cotton farms in Louisiana², his father is a respected opthalmologist. Spencer himself it would appear has never had a job outside of Conservative media. Spencer’s views are not influenced by the elite classes, they are, directly, the views of the elite classes, thus it is thoroughly unsurprising they are what they are, a simple self interested defence of his own position in society.³
Why do I talk about this? Because reactionary ideas do have roots in an ‘organic’ base, that is, capitalism creates a certain set of conditions and the cultural trimmings develop to reproduce those conditions, part of those conditions are a section of the working class which is elevated above the rest, along side the petit-bourgeoisie. There are strong material incentives for these people to scab as a worker or exploit as petit-bourgeoisie. Fascism is the ruling class deliberately organising this base into its own defensive wall between itself and the organised working class. It is important to remember that capital does not actually want to cede power to this base, it merely wants to use them to its own ends. They are complicit and they are victims all at the same time. If communism is the real movement that abolishes the present state of things, fascism is the fake movement which preserves the present state of things, or the fake movement which re-establishes the previous state of things.
It is in this context therefore that I would like to discuss the rise of the alt right on the internet, which can be looked at, depending on your level of belief, in a number of ways. One way it can be looked at is a milieu of various similar but different ideological strands that has arisen organically and maintains its grass roots credentials. Another way to look at it is as a milieu of various similar but different grass roots ideological strands that have arisen organically, but have then been co-opted by capital and state interests. The third way to look at it, is that these ideas have always existed organically, but that as an organised mass movement the far right has always been a direct instrument of capital, and therefore any emerging far right movement of any note is never ‘organic’ or grass roots but always a direct, for purpose created, instrument of capital, proliferating ideas which come directly from capital. While the ideas of the alt right already existed on certain channels, they were not fully at the fore, it was only with the interference of capital that they could flourish and become dominant. This interference was the effective colonisation of what became alt-right spaces by the confluence of influences of capital and the intelligence services, and their overlap.
You could claim that the alt right emerged from a milieu of ideas and was then co-opted, but at the same time, from whence did this milieu arise? Tied in and central to the alt right ideological terrain is World War II German Anti Soviet propaganda, cold war propaganda, quote unquote race science, the radical belief that uninterrupted capitalism and the domination of the free market in all things. None of these are new ideas, and all of them have consistently been proliferated by the state, by capital and by intelligence agencies.
It is true in the context of the alt right these ideas appeared in a new medium, namely, memes, Facebook, twitter, YouTube, Reddit, 4chan, 8chan, discord, twitch etc . It is true that with these new mediums came new styles of operation, new vectors for fascist intimidation. However, the material broadcast over these mediums is not new at all, and in fact many of the most popular works have their roots in intelligence operations.
The relationship of this material to these platforms is no accident at all. The intelligence services and military industrial complex have their own penchant for far right ideology and it is from these bodies that the internet arose, the internet was originally developed as Arpanet, A.R.P.A was the Advanced Research Project Agency, which later became D.A.R.P.A, the Defence Advanced Research Project Agency⁴. Regardless of the original intention of its creation, which may or may not have been complicit, the internet as it is mostly used by the majority of western society, even those that deem them self ‘off the grid’ as it were, functions primarily as a means for the proliferation of ruling class capitalist ideology, almost entirely so but with some caveats. The internet can also function as a tool for class struggle, but this is only a tiny, tiny amount of its traffic.
The internet acts as a means of reproducing and distributing old propaganda as well as a forum for the creation and proliferation of new propaganda. There is often very little difference between the two. The new propaganda is the old in new form. The base material from which the alt right and others work from was already laced with capitalist ideology and already came directly from capital. Were we to look at the alt right as an organic movement merely co-opted by intelligence interests, we would have to ignore the fact that the movement was already spreading the good word of capital, as it is written by capitalists themselves, ‘before’ it was co-opted. Whichever point you want to say is the point of co-option.
I realise that for many people this is almost taken as a given, everything within capitalism reproduces capitalist ideology, why would the internet be any different? And that is true, but there are spaces which lay claim to being outside corporate or state influence, it is these I wish to examine.
The alt right exist in a sphere that, while it appears as somehow opposed to ruling class ideology, is in fact almost completely controlled by ruling class interests. Most of them would readily admit- proudly pronounce- that twitter, Facebook etc are corporate controlled, indeed they probably have opinions about how their free speech is restricted on such platforms, and have their own views about what kind of propaganda these platforms promote. Donald Trump himself has claimed that ‘the radical left are in control of Facebook’.⁵
This is of course nonsense, in fact, billionaire Peter Theil, who has sat on the Facebook board of directors since 2005, donated over 1 Million dollars to the Trump Campaign and 100,000 dollars for his inauguration⁶. Tiel also founded Palantir, a surveillance and data-mining software used widely in the military industrial complex and intelligence agencies⁷. Facebook also recently hired former director general of the Israeli ministry of justice Emi Palmor, who previously created a cyber unit tasked with monitoring Palestinian social media posts⁸. In recent years Facebook has been known to censor Soviet Flags celebrating V.E. day⁹ and among other things, admittedly to censoring posts supporting Quassim Soliemani when he was murdered by the US government¹⁰.
On to the next social media giant. Jack Dorsey, head of Twitter, has close relations to the US state department. Dorsey was part of a state department delegation that visited Iraq in 2009¹¹ and has actively colluded with the state department in matters of geopolitical importance, such as during the ‘green revolution’ in Iran¹². Recently, Twitter blocked the account of a Movement Towards Socialism presidential candidate in Bolivia, supporting the US backed coup government in doing so¹³. As well as all of this, Twitter has also been massively utilised by the far right, including the use of bot networks to support that same coup government by stating ‘there was no coup’¹⁴. For other examples of capital penetration into the internet, we might look to how Wikipedia was founded by stock options trader and Ayn Rand fan Jimmy Wales¹⁵.
This however is the mainstream internet, or at least, the socially acceptable internet. While the alt right use these channels, particularly twitter, most of their discussion and organisation happens on other channels. As they see it, these channels are free from corporate/state control and free speech incursions. That is, they believe their own platforms generally support free speech, but the left is attempting all the time to subvert them. They believe that the intelligence agencies are on the left and so the intelligence agencies attempt to subvert their spaces, any left wing viewpoint must be the viewpoint of an intelligence agent or some other paid shill. In the case of Correct the Record, a firmly centrist liberal organisation, this may be the case. As for the LEFT we seemingly lack such capabilities and organisational capacity.
While it may be true the alt right can say or share any thing they want within their enclaves on these channels, it is certainly not true that the narratives pushed on these forums, 4Chan, 8chan, Discord, Reddit, IRC, Riot, Signal, Telegram, is outside of ruling class control, or indeed that ruling class control is left wing.
The scope of this online community cannot be underestimated, it reaches millions, perhaps even a billion or two people globally. To look at it properly, we must look at the milieu from which it emerged. That milieu is described openly by key figures of the alt right, and its roots are visible.
The Roots of the Alt-Right:
At the lighter end of the spectrum of cultural precursors to the alt right, you have Vice Media. Very little needs said, founded in 1994 and blooming into the mainstream around the early to mid 2000’s, Vice presented an edgy, fashionable, zeitgeist capturing, ‘alternative media’ brand. Vice reported on all the craziest stories they could find. They did so in such a fashion as to make it difficult to deny their veracity, with short documentary videos. Vice however ultimately never presented a cohesive alternative narrative that would underpin these stories and give them some purpose, say, to challenge the corporate interests which drove the insanity they captured.
Instead, Vice acted as half travelling freak show half deeply orientalist poverty safari. Shane Smith, one founder of Vice, who is now a billionaire, has stated directly that the magazine is not supposed come down on the left or right¹⁶.Its a common trope, but we have seen often enough what ‘non ideological’ actually means, a cowardly complicity in ruling class ideology, combined with surface level, symptom focused critiques that fail to capture systemic issues. So much so, Rupert Murdoch has seen it prudent to invest in Vice Media¹⁷.
Another right wing and alt right propagandist, Andrew Anglin of the Daily Stormer, at one point the premier alt right, neo-nazi news website, cited Vice as an inspiration for his own site¹⁸. It will come as no surprise to us then and no new revelation to those who pay attention, that one of Vices founding members, Gavin Mcinnes, the self proclaimed western Chauvinist, went on to found the Proud Boys, an alt right boys club with violent ideations¹⁹. It would be too liberal a use of the terms to call them a gang, a street movement, or a militia. The proud boys are nonetheless a group at the forefront of the alt right. Mcinness was heavily involved in promoting the Donald Trump campaign.
Gavin Mcinnes, despite his common man pretensions, is a media mogul. He co-founded Vice, one of the most successful publications of the 2010's and since splitting from Vice, continues to use various platforms to promote his brand. Mcinnes famously stated that he was glad Brooklyn's hipsters, the readers of his magazine, were mostly white²⁰. When we look at the content of the magazine, originally a local zine for this hipster culture, we are again not surprised or shocked. Where better to promote liberal capitalism than the gentrified neighbourhoods full of its young white upwardly mobile beneficiaries, by documenting the very culture of that benefit?
Now this is not to say that Vice itself is a fascist or intelligence lead publication. Rather it is to say that the cultural zeitgeist tapped into by Vice was the very same Zeitgeist that gave birth to the alt right. Indeed, we might think of the movie ‘Zeitgeist’²¹ and its following as being emblematic of this culture: young, working through to upper middle class, online, cynical, ironic, provocative, individualist and anti-establishment, perhaps a user of drugs but not necessarily, perhaps a believer of conspiracy theories but only with ironic distance,with a self perception of radical enlightenment and vague spiritual or esoteric leanings. Reporting on and for this section of society, Vice became easily the largest alternative publication throughout the late 90’s, 2000s and 2010s, nothing else comes close.
As Vice grew its scope went beyond hipster subculture and began to document the whole world in this voyeuristic fashion. They embarked on a crusade to find the strangest, the most depraved, the most bizarre features of humanity possible, in many respects they did this well and much of the subject matter was extremely engaging. So to, the forums of the alt right, 4chan and 8chan, are littered with not only deliberately provocative material, but at the same time voyeuristic gazing at the most shocking and depraved images and videos possible to find, several orders of magnitude worse than anything covered by Vice.
Vice also reported in a manner as deliberately provocative as possible. This deliberate provocation would become a cornerstone of alt right culture and is common to it at all levels, from individual trolls, to organised armies of trolls, right the way up to the campaign office of Donald Trump. 4chan, 8chan, Reddit etc, are renowned for their many and various trolling efforts and scandals. Trolling has become their main weapon in fact. While many engage in trolling for fun or ‘lulz’, the likes of Vice Media and their business associates have taken the concept to a corporate level.
Take for instance Ryan Holiday, marketing guru, former marketing director of American Apparel and author of titles such as ‘Trust Me I’m Lying: Confessions of a Media Manipulator.’ American Apparel, during Holiday’s time with them, had a close relationship with Vice, who advertised their clothes — in a deliberately provocative manner.
Most hipster millennials remember the near naked women in plain but well made t-shirts, perhaps with a small logo of some description but nothing gauche, on the back of every copy of vice. They remember this partly because of the near naked women but also because Holiday deliberately stirred up controversy around this advertising campaign. He writes, ‘I’d serve ads in direct violation of the standards of publishers and ad networks, knowing that while they’d inevitably be pulled, the ads would generate all sorts of brand awareness in the few minutes users saw them.’²²
This is but one example of the kind of tactics employed by Holiday. Another example would be building billboards with the specific intention of vandalising them himself, in order to claim there was a protest movement against Tucker Max, director of the movie advertised on the billboards. This was done in order to stir up press and coverage. Holiday has been extremely successful in the use of these tactics, and notably, during the Donald Trump campaign he tweeted that copies of his books were going round Donald Trumps office.This might be true, or it might be the marketing tactics of a man famous for creating fake news.
We do know that Holiday was offered a job in the Trump administration²³, and can say for certain the Trump campaign emulated many of his tactics. It is worth noting again Holiday’s close relationship with Vice media and therefore Gavin Mcinnes. Gavin Mcinnes has of course appeared on Alex Jone’s Infowars and regularly rubs shoulders with all manner of alt right figures, including the man himself Donald Trump. Along with Trump, his former right and left hand men Steven Bannon and Roger Stone.
Roger Stone is perhaps one of the grandfathers of provocative troll marketing. It was he who came up with the ‘Make American Great Again’ slogan for the Ronald Reagan campaign²⁴. It was he who turned up to a live debate between various 2016 presidential hopefuls, including Hillary Clinton, with some of Bill Clinton’s sexual assault victims in toe. He paid one of them $2,500²⁵ for the appearance. Stone also wore and sold t-shirts with a cartoonized picture of Bill Clinton’s face on them, with the word ‘RAPE’ in capital letters, emulating the Obama ‘Change’ logo. He is known throughout the US political community as a shock jock and a fixer, a reputation he actively cultivates. For a good look at his persona, watch ‘Get me Roger Stone’.
We cannot of course talk about Donald Trump and Roger Stone without talking about Steve Bannon. Steve Bannon was an officer in United States Navy for 7 years, where he became special assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon²⁶. He then went on to work for Goldman Sachs as an investment banker, making his way up to vice president and relocating from New York to LA, where he was tasked with expanding Goldman’s influence in the entertainment industry²⁷. During this period he was executive producer of many movies, one directed by Sean Penn²⁸. After this he moved on to documentary making, with a far right political bent and edgy, controversial presentation.
In 2007 Bannon briefly became CEO of IGE, internet gaming industries, a company he convinced Goldman Sachs to invest in. IGE was a Hong Kong based company that traded in online game currencies. Workers would build up gold and items, mostly in World of Warcraft, and then sell them on to players who paid real money for them. Through this company, Bannon sealed a relationship with the internet, he is quoted as saying, ‘These guys, these rootless white males, had monster power. … It was the pre-Reddit. It’s the same guys on (one of a trio of online message boards owned by IGE) Thottbot who were [later] on Reddit’²⁹
It is not difficult to imagine then Steve Bannon employing these ‘rootless white male’s’ ‘monster power’ in aid of Donald Trump. It is a strategy that appears to have paid off. With this in mind, it is worth noting that many Donald Trump supporters gathered in Discord, an application which allows people to talk to each other while they play games, as well as stream games and maintain text based chat groups. Discord would end up being used by such groups as the Base, a prominent neo nazi organisation.
After his time at IGE, Bannon co founded Brietbart News. Bannon would later describe Breitbart as ‘the platform of the alt right’³⁰. He would become head of the company in 2012 when co founder Andrew Breitbart died. Brietbart produced deliberately provocative, aggressive media designed to shock and disgust. They became the morning paper of the near far right and were central to Donald Trumps campaign. So much so that Bannon was appointed Chief Executive Director of Trump’s election Campaign. After the election, Bannon became his chief Strategy Advisor, a newly created position.³¹
The presence of Steve Bannon in such a position drew criticism from the ADL, who claimed Bannon was anti-Semitic³². A host of prominent Jews including Alan Dershowitz³³,David Horowitz³⁴ and The Zionist Organisation of America³⁵ defended him. During his time in office, Bannon was involved in the infamous ‘Muslim ban’³⁶. Bannon left office in 2017, just weeks after the ‘unite the right’ rally, which became an embarrassment for the alt right.³⁷
Bannon also sat on the board of Cambridge Analytica, a data company which the Trump campaign hired in order to influence the 2016 election. The company engaged in, ‘bribery, stings, honey traps and spying with the help of ex-spies from Britain and Israel.’³⁸ They used data mining to influence Facebook in the election Donald Trump, among other online platforms, with techniques developed by British and Israeli intelligence agencies.
With these characters at its head, and Donald Trump himself, who needs no explanation, it is no surprise that this campaign was so explicitly offensive,racist and under hand. In fact it was most likely done deliberately, Donald Trump et al trolled their way into office.
While Vice media is a precursor to the alt right, and many of its associates are also alt right associates, Vice is fundamentally a liberal magazine, particularly after Mcinnes left, in fact he gives this as one of the reasons for his departure³⁹.The real support for the Trump Campaign came from other supposedly more truly ‘underground’ media sources, Vice being by this point a more less mainstream magazine. Perhaps the most influential of these ‘underground’ media outlets is Infowars.com.
Infowars.com is run by Alex Jones. Alex Jones is perhaps the worlds preeminent conspiracy theorist. This generations Bill Hicks. Many believe Alex Jones is in fact Bill Hicks. In actual fact, Alex Jones is another shrewd media mogul with one of the largest audiences in America and the world⁴⁰. He has also acted as a direct propagandist for the US president, who has appeared on his show, along side Roger Stone, Gavin Mcinnes and some other characters who will appear throughout this article. Alex Jones is one of the most influential figures on the alt right today.
Alex Jones presents a world view many find they can see truth in, a world run by shady tyrannical elite groups more powerful than any government, intent on spreading their influence all over the world to create a new world order. Up to this point, I would be inclined to mostly agree, there certainly is an elite that controls the world over and above the power of nation states. Jones however will often break down into barely coherent ciphers about how this is not only a human problem, but one of intergalactic proportions, including alien plots and inter-dimensional travel⁴¹⁴².
Indeed when we look at the content Jones delivers, and look at the later iterations of more recent conspiracy theories such as Pizza Gate or Qanon, we see another effect that is common to much of this far right, conspiracy theory orientated propaganda with dubious intelligence connections: the political line he presents goes beyond the quantifiable and the material.
While he backs up many of the things he says with research, and much of it is in fact true, albeit amongst mountains of bullshit, when the talk turns to aliens and other dimensions etc, Jones is taking you into the realm of fantasy, and not just fantasy, in the sense of an imagined world, but stories truly fantastic, out of this world. The fantasy embellishes the political reality. He combines the things his listeners know to be true with articles of blind faith. Its a shock and awe tactic, he makes so many massive claims you don’t even know where to begin with your refutation. You are bogged down in Aliens before you can get round to Nicaragua.
Only Alex Jones tells the truth about everything else, so he must be right about this, at least partly, or perhaps he just goes a little too far, but then all geniuses have a little madness right?
Anybody who has kept up with Alex Jones will again not be surprised by this melding of fantasy and political ideology. He is often quoted as having learned his oration style from a baptist preacher and indeed there is a biblical quality to the stories he presents. He regularly evokes fire, brimstone, hell, demons and eternal damnation as if giving a pulpit sermon.
The ideas of Alex Jones are again not new. There are numerous examples of alien or lizard related new world order conspiracy theories. Conspiracies about JFK etc. Where Alex Jones has been different to Bill Hicks or David Icke however, is that he has used his platform to march in lockstep with the US government. On the Alex Jones show, post election of Donald Trump, the US government is presented- imagine my shock- as the champion through which the New World Order can be challenged⁴³.
At first inspection, we may find this odd. Clearly, if there is a shady group controlling the world, they would control the US government, or they cannot truly be said to be in control. If they control the government, how could they allow a true champion of the people to arise and lead their government? Indeed, don’t they have a long history of suppressing champions of the people which you yourself, Alex Jones, have to a very watered down and muddied extent covered? Isn’t Donald Trump deeply involved with all of these people?
On closer inspection, we find many things about the anti establishment anti new world order messages as it is promoted specifically by Alex Jones that are strange. In all his talk of the New World Order, he avoids mention of Israel. Indeed, when asked about Israel he is quoted on the Joe Rogan Experience as saying ‘I don’t have an opinion on Israel, I’ve never been there.’ Odd for a man with an opinion on everywhere else on the planet, even the US government on many occasions. Perhaps though not surprising given the Zionist money which pays many of his close associates.
On top of that, Alex Jones often talks in terms of ‘the good elements in the CIA ’ and ‘ the good elements of NSA’ . Where he discusses the crimes of the CIA, it is usually in the context of rogue CIA agents, rather than an organisation acting deliberately towards a specific purpose. Or, he outright excuses their actions ‘you don’t want to let the communists do all the cocaine and heroin dealing’.
When we look even closer, and look into Alex Jones family history, we are again, not shocked or surprised. In fact, no revelation is made. For those of you who have watched Alex Jones, he readily and openly and constantly talks about ‘his sources in intelligence’ or ‘his sources in government’. You might write this off as the bullshit artistry of a conspiracy theorist. In fact Alex Jones has familial ties to several people in the intelligence services, some of whom were involved in the Iran Contra scandal, a scandal which he has played down on his show. The story as he tells it is that his father worked as a dentist for the intelligence services. As he says on the Joe Rogan experience, ‘ I even admit I have family in the C.I.A.’ Other sources confirm this⁴⁴
Alex Jones represents then, not the pinnacle of the conspiracy theory community, but something all the more sinister. Alex Jones is, or acts as, the manufactured and state backed fake pinnacle of the conspiracy theory community. Playing down atrocities by the US government, drawing his audience into an insane fantasy. Many in the conspiracy community reject Alex Jones, you can find critiques of him and his CIA family on right wing New World Order conspiracy theory websites⁴⁵, but you don’t need to go to these places to see the truth about him.
More recently it is abundantly clear he is a direct mouthpiece for Donald Trump and his campaign, through the repeated appearances on his show by members of that campaign and Donald Trump himself both in the lead up to and after his election, as well as Alex Jone’s stated opinions on Donald Trump.
We might look at Alex Jones as the coloniser of the conspiracy theory community. Alex Jones controls the mainstream conspiracy narratives, spread disinformation among the conspiracy community, and tars all those who question US state imperatives as cranks like him. It may very well be Alex Jones is either a grifter or a dupe, it may well be private interests, rather than state interests that have him push the line he does, but the results of his actions are clear whatever their intentions.
Now bear in mind, perhaps for some of the above reasons, many on the alt-right would baulk at the suggestion that Alex Jones was a key influence of the alt right and perhaps point to more outwardly anti-Semitic figures such as Richard Spencer. We must remember that Alex Jones had been in the game 20 years+ before the alt right came about, yet like it or not, Alex Jones is easily the most influential conspiracy theorist of all time, and probably the second most influential figure on the alt right, second only to his friend, the president himself.
The alt right’s relationship to the conspiracy theory community cannot be understated. Neither can the relationship between the conspiracy theory community and 4chan, 8chan and Reddit. Richard Spencer is famous for wearing a Pepe pin, Pepe being 4chan’s foremost meme. A frog, usually depicted as being smug. Andrew Anglin is quoted as saying his own background is in conspiracy theories and browsing 4chan¹⁸.On 4chan, Reddit, etc, new world order and Jewish world order conspiracies are regularly shared, no example need be given, go on 4chan /pol/ right now and you will see for yourself. Indeed, the Jewish world order conspiracy has become over time one of their central tenets.
When talking about 4chan culture, for the purposes of this article for the most part I use the specific term loosely to denote a wide, extremely wide, complex of sites and talking heads that converge to create 4chan culture. Youtube channels, subreddits, twitch streamers, discords, blog posters, Facebook pages, twitter handles, pages on the darkweb etc. Reddit, which started in 2005, is different from 4chan in numerous ways, with a more highly curated and restrictive moderation policy, particularly in recent years. There is however unmistakably a huge cultural crossover between the two sites, particularly on certain subreddits.
Even more so, after its creation in 2013, 8chan drew the hard core of 4chan users who found even 4chan too restrictive for their tastes. Use of 8chan exploded during the Gamergate controversy as 4chan banned Gamergate⁴⁶.
All three of these sites allow you to post any picture alongside any text you want, a format called an image board or message board. While Reddit users must make an account registered to an email and post under a moniker, 4chan and 8chan users post anonymously, only applying a moniker if they wish. 4Chan itself was originally designed so that users could share Japanese culture, anime, various arts and crafts. As the site grew however it come to encompass many different hobbies, interests, and perversions. 4Chan’s anonymity of posting was key to its appeal and users came to call themselves ‘anons’. Another large part of its appeal was the sharing of ‘memes’- images, which can be of basically anything, which are funny through their repetition. As we will see, this ability to post memes anonymously also made them a ripe target for subversion.
In these early days and today, 4chan, particularly the /b/ board but then later the /pol/ and /x/ boards were awash with conspiracy theories. The site was established in 2003, in the wake of 9/11 and the start of the ‘War on Terror’. The internet was now fully mainstream, with many middle class and even many working class homes owning a computer and being online. Theories like these could be shared with more ease than ever, unfiltered with no editorial board. The Afghanistan and Iraq Wars were eroding confidence in the state and the state propaganda machines were working over time. Trust in the media was low. The 9/11 Truth movement was in full swing. Alex Jones, by now already the most established conspiracy theorist of his time, was a key figure. Many describe 9/11 and its aftermath as a time when they ‘woke up’. Then in 2007 the world entered one of the biggest recessions in history and the conspiracy theorising and extremist politics present online flourished like never before.
By 2008 4chan had grown in popularity, so much so that creator Chris Poole was named Times most influential person of the year that year⁴⁶.The users of the board-mostly young and white but still fairly diverse given the global reach of the internet- had formed a group called ‘anonymous’ part troll mob part hacker collective. This group ‘organised’ against Scientology, along with several other incidences of group trolling which brought them media attention, the 4chan community had discovered a collective power.
This group would then go on to play a minor but considerable role in geopolitics, anonymous hackers and activists were involved in the Arab Spring and Occupy as well as several other major political events. Hackers involved in Anonymous and the related Lulzsec would also be involved in various leaks and other cyber scandals⁴⁷.While the group operated without clear ideology, they originally presented some kind of libertarian or anti authoritarian politics. As it would turn out, one of their major players would be outed as an FBI informant. This individual was part of cyber attacks on Iran, Syria and Brazil. At the time these were all targets of US regime change efforts⁴⁸. It is worth noting however that almost anybody can adopt the anonymous moniker, those acting under the banner have a wide variety of motivations.
In these days 4chan included all different kinds of esoteric politics, most included elements of what Angela Nagle terms a ‘cyber utopianism’⁴⁹, they believed that the politics emerging on these boards would be revolutionary and that the boards along with the internet in general would be one of the primary tools for the revolution, even if the revolution itself wasn’t very well defined.
The ideologies that dominated were variants of free market libertarianism, most users were pro gun rights, anti surveillance state and pro small government (or so they thought). Alongside this but weaker was a current of national socialist or fascist politics. Many also engaged in ironic national socialism. Users of the websites Stormfront, and Iron March, other forums were also prevalent on the site. They were referred to as ‘stormf*gs’.
At this point the right in general was less dominant, though this was partly due to the general feelings of nihilistic apoliticality as a choice it was also partly because of a number of left anarchists and other leftist users who made up the sites numbers. Essentially then, the dominant ideology at the time, the one which overlapped with all others, was run of the mill liberalism,albeit a purist, humanist liberalism focused on what can broadly be defined as liberal human rights, free speech above all, the right to privacy, self defence and the right to bear arms etc. This was often laced with vague or even explicit anti corporate messaging. The phrase ‘crony capitalism’ was bandied around a lot.
Popular figures on the site at this time included Ron Paul and Julian Assange. Stefan Molyneux⁵⁰preached ‘anarco-capitalism’ as did many other YouTube personalities. Alex Jones himself presented an anti government right libertarian message as did many others in the conspiracy community.
Alongside this, intellectual currents such as the new atheists were first popular and then maligned with the help of the Fedora meme. They said their piece alongside fundamentalist Christians, or ‘christf*gs’ as they came to be known. One thing that united nearly all users however, was a dogmatic belief in free speech and expression.
Anything went, to the point where some users, even many users, had no qualms with child pornography or child pornography related material being shared⁵¹. Indeed the site had a longstanding relationship with child pornography, particularly the later iteration 8chan. 4Chan was itself an experiment in libertarian fundamentalism and the political ideologies and predilections of the user base reflected that. This is not to mention many dark stories that emerged from 4chan users unrelated to politics, murders, sexual assaults and suicides.
With this though, Amir taaki, ‘crypto anarchist’, computer hacker with left wing leanings, talks of using the board during these days. Though he fought with the Left wing YPG militia in Syria⁵², he has tweeted quotes from Alexandre Dugin, his ideology is difficult to pin down. Taaki is perhaps therefore the most representative left wing figure of early 4chan culture, ideologically eclectic but generally anti establishment and anti authoritarian.
Hacker culture was extremely prevalent on early 4chan, with Anonymous and Lulzsec and so on, which Taaki was involved with. Taaki was also deeply involved in Bitcoin, which was popular in these online circles before it exploded into mass use. Bitcoin might represent the pinnacle of this ‘Cyber Utopianism’. Now a household name, Bitcoin was supposed to be a new currency that would replace the corrupt currencies controlled by central banks. As well as this, it would be difficult to trace transactions, so consumers could buy whatever they wanted. Fundamentally, Bitcoin is a free market solution.
Taaki was involved in the development of the ‘dark wallet’ which would allow you to store your bitcoin in a manner untraceable. The idea for bitcoin came from the way currency was generated in online games, where players had to ‘mine’ for it. Interesting when we consider Steve Bannon’s involvement with IGE.
Bitcoin was first used as a real currency on the dark web on sites such as the Silk Road. On the Silk Road users could buy drugs and more or less anything else they wanted, without being traced. Amazon for contraband. Some have speculated that Bitcoin itself may be an intelligence operation⁵³. For one thing, a key component of the code is based on the NSA’s ‘Secure Hashing Algorithm 256 (or Sha 256). For another, in Japanese, Satoshi Nakamoto, the alias of the unknown creator of Bitcoin, translates roughly to ‘central intelligence’. On top of that, the CIA were recently found to own Crypto AG, a Swiss Encryption company, which meant all information encrypted by their products was actually under their control. While this is speculation, it is interesting when we consider the wider context of this article.
As Taaki and co developed their anarco-currency, the Occupy movement grew and Anons on 4chan supported it, despite its clear left leanings. Occupy itself was famous for uniting a hodge-podge of free market libertarians, socialists, anarchists,run of the mill liberals and former apoliticals. There were many examples of meme culture permeating Occupy. As a milestone in the history of 4chan, at the time of Occupy in 2011, 4chan, though already rife with anti semitism, misogyny and racism, was still not the fully formed authoritarian right wing culture it is today, though there was certainly a dominant right wing current, these were just as likely to be pro weed pro gun anti war libertarians as national socialists or even run of the mill conservatives. In the coming years however that would come to change.
After Occupy a new generation was turned on to radical leftist politics. Alongside this, in many countries in the west there was mounting campaigns for the legalisation of gay marriage and abortion in those countries and states which had been slow to adopt. The perceived threat by socially progressive influences evoked a reaction from the right and this began to manifest in a more pronounced manner on 4chan and its satellites. While it had always been a feature of 4chan culture, increasingly, the trolling became focused on ‘social justice warriors’ or ‘SJWs’, a term that has largely fallen out of existence, though its cultural signifiers remain prevalent. The social justice warriors in the minds of the alt-right encompass the extreme left. In fact most of their ire at this stage was focused on liberal organisations, as well as various college activists, whom they saw as suppressing free speech. These groups also represented an easy target for the creation of ‘lulz’, as they would usually react publicly and forcefully. These liberal activists came to be seen as the corresponding street movement to the new world order of the conspiracies.
This reached a head in 2014 with the gamer-gate controversy which would become a formative moment for the alt-right . Participants claim Gamergate was a protest movement about ‘ethics in gaming journalism’. Victims claim this was a campaign of targeted harassment against feminist video game journalists⁵⁴. The entire episode was sparked by a blog post posted on 4chan, which stated one female programmer had slept with a journalist for a favourable review. The truth of this is disputed and the author of the blog retracted the statement. In the ensuing online war, 4chan users targeted female gaming journalists with death threats, rape threats and other online harassment. This to the extent that Gamergate was banned from 4chan and moved to 8chan.
At the same time, as austerity from the 2007/8 recession dragged on, public services were squeezed and the blowback from the war on terror saw a rise in terror attacks, attention was drawn from 9/11 truth and financial profiteers to immigrants and racial minorities. Rather than blaming themselves, the bourgeois press were only too happy to platform the growing voice of the far right, who didn’t want socialism as a response to austerity, but to get rid of immigrants.
In the years that followed Occupy, consensus in the chan communities shifted away from anarco-capitalism and libertarianism and by 2014–2016, 4chan was completing its transition into an outright hotbed of fascism. With this transition the alt right as we know it had been born, the authoritarian version of the far right had taken precedence over the supposed libertarian variant, 9/11 truth was eclipsed by phrenology and racial IQ stats. Alongside this, a new hero had replaced Ron Paul, his name was Donald Trump. Still to this day, every day, without fail, there is a ‘Donald Trump General’ thread on 4chan. Memes were made depicting him as a god emperor or a crusader, particularly a Templar⁵⁵.
The God Emperor Saves Us From his Paedophile Friends.
These days the unifying conspiracy narrative has evolved. Starting in 2016, in the run up to Donald Trumps election, a conspiracy theory emerged that came to be known as ‘Pizza Gate’⁵⁶. It was widely shared and researched on 4chan and 8chan. The general backstory involved many previous conspiracy theories about elite child sex trafficking which, as we know, have a lot of credence given the Epstein case and many other cases, such as the British Parliament paedophiles scandal. Pizza Gate however was specifically about the supposed revelations uncovered by the leaking of the Podesta emails. These emails repeatedly referred to members of the Democratic Party establishment ordering ‘cheese pizza’. Cheese Pizza was already slang on 4chan for child porn, which theorists took to be a code for the paedophile rings activities.
This lead adherents to believe that Hillary Clinton was part of a satanic sex trafficking ring, involving claims such as that Hillary Clinton ate the face of a child. Now, while both of these things may be true, the information supplied by Pizza Gate believers was often contradictory, faulty, or false. The theory claimed that the sex ring was being run out of Comet Ping Pong in Washington DC. The debacle culminated when Edgar Welch, a 28 year old, travelled to Comet Ping Pong, heavily armed, in order to do what he termed ‘self investigation’. Three shots were fired, this lead to a stand off with police although nobody was injured. Welch did not find a paedophile ring operating out of Comet Ping Pong.
The proliferation of the Pizza Gate conspiracy theory becomes even more interesting when we consider some of the people who are known to have supported it. For one, Alex Jones. Jones however backed off from the theory after the Comet incident and made a public apology to the owner⁵⁷. As previously discussed, Alex Jones has his own intelligence connections.
Mike Cernovich is another Pizza Gate theorist, and has been a regular host on Jones show. Cernovich, like Jones, is a supporter of Donald Trump. Like Donald Trump, Cernovich has his own murky connections to the elite pedophile rings he supposedly opposes. One link is his close personal friend Alan Dershowitz, who appeared in Cernovich’s movie ‘silenced’. Dershowitz was of course Epstein’s lawyer in 2008, and secured quite possibly the most lenient sentence in history for Jeffrey Epstein⁵⁸.
Cernovich was involved personally with the latest Epstein case, when he made a claim against Virginia Giuffre, mirroring a previous claim made by Dershowitz in 2008 which was was denied. The purpose of the claim was not to protect the victim but to exonerate Dershowitz. Cernovich worked as his proxy therefore. Cernovich himself has a long history with sexual harassment, assault and rape, both as accused and accuser. Cernovich is part of the ‘manosphere’. Much of his online content has been devoted to opposing feminism . He once wrote, ‘A whore will let her friend ruin your life with a false rape case. So why should I care when women are raped?’So to, he is noted for accusing several people of paedophilia spuriously.
Another Pizza gate theorist is Jack Posobiec. While at Temple University, Posobiec started a chapter of Students for Academic Freedom, an organisation run by the David Horowitz Freedom Centre, a Zionist think tank . Posobiec then went on to serve in the military where he was deployed at Guantanamo Bay. From there he graduated to the Office Of Naval Intelligence. After that, Posobiec became involved with The Rebel Media, where he became its Washington Bureau Chief⁵⁹. The Rebel Media is funded by Ezra Levant, a far right Zionist who has previously worked as a lobbyist for Rothman’s Incoporated, a Tobacco Distributor⁶⁰. In short, Posobiec has been involved with intelligence agency proxies and the intelligence agencies directly for his entire adult life. That is, until stepping straight into the world of alt right ideologuery.
The theories around Pizza Gate developed with Donald Trump in office, evolving to become ‘Qanon’. In 2017 posts began appearing on 4chan under the moniker ‘Q’ and have continued to appear⁶¹. The posts contain cryptic references to various news events and other conspiracy theory related material. While it started on 4chan, Q moved their posts to 8chan some way through the process. Q claimed to be somebody close to the Donald Trump administration, many speculated that some of the posts were from Donald Trump himself. The Qanon theory took Pizza Gate as its base material, but expanded that to include a wider web of many other conspiracy theories, all based around the idea that a satanic communist freemason globalist paedophile cult controls the world. Many believe a ‘great awakening’ is happening, where the truth about this evil force is coming out. They also believe there is soon to be an apocalyptic reckoning. This ties into many other alt right tropes such as the ‘boogaloo’⁶². Like Alex Jones, Q anon threw out small pieces of fact alongside large pieces of fiction or speculation.
As the Qanon story goes, Donald Trump and other ‘white hat’ intelligence agents have been plotting the destruction of the satanic paedophile cult for the last thirty years. Donald Trump is presented as the white night in this millenarian fantasy. His connections to the elite are waved away as double agency. Trump is presented as the man on the inside. What we notice is that the narrative pushed is basically identical to that of Alex Jones, there are ‘good and bad’ intelligence agents or ‘white hats and black hats’, and the president is the hero who will save us. So too demons, warlocks and other such fantasy elements are included in the mythos.
According Wikileaks however, the Qanon Conspiracy may be an intelligence operation. Journalist Suzie Dawson⁶³ makes the connection that the task force specified to hunt down Edward Snowden is called the ‘Q’ group. The character of ‘Q’ is one who emulates a Snowden type figure, but of course, a version of ‘Q’ who is completely in line with US state department interests. It is worth noting Wikileaks are perhaps the premier organisation in the world related to leaking the data of the US intelligence community. Their endorsement of this theory is therefore significant, they would not do so lightly. It was of course Wikileaks who facilitated the Snowden leaks.
When we consider this information, and the connections of some of the Qanon and Pizzagate mouth pieces, we can see clearly the influences at play. The story has several functions, firstly, to exonerate Donald Trump’s own connection to elite paedophiles and elevate his position by placing him in opposition to them. It also functions as a ready made smear campaign, at the drop of hat names can be implicated and enemies targeted, as the Comet Pizza episode spells out clearly. Then, the theory works to exonerate the intelligence services themselves and put their own history down to bad apple ‘black hats’. The theory acts to centralise various different conspiracy theories into one controlled strand, this strand serves to distract those who do genuinely question the world order from real conspiracies. It also allows those in power to co-opt the conspiracy, so as to appear anti establishment, as many do. The community also acts as a network by which other forms of disinformation can be spread.
The influence of the Qanon conspiracy and the effectiveness of this strategy cannot be underestimated. Donald Trump himself has been known to tweet things which are Q adjacent. More worrying, according to ‘Qanon Anonymous’, a podcast dedicated to researching and documenting the Qanon phenomenon, there are currently 40 confirmed Qanon supporters who have won Republican congressional primaries⁶⁴. As well as this, the ex green beret who carried out the recent failed military coup in Venezuela was also a Q anon believer⁶⁵.
During the coronavirus pandemic, Qanon advocates have been involved in a network spreading misinformation and denialism about the virus. They see the virus as as either exaggerated, or as a deliberate attack on the white populace. They variously blame China or ‘globalists’ in general⁶⁶. This of course, shores up the position of the various right wing leaders who have chosen to sacrifice populations rather than profits, Donald Trump in particular, but also Boris Johnson and Jair Bolsonaro. These leaders are perfectly happy for their sky high death tolls to blamed on the Chinese. The US, Brazil, and the UK have handled the Coronavirus worse than any other countries. The ‘Re-Open America Movement’, which lobbied to end the lockdown restrictions in America, was part organised by ‘The Michigan Fund’. Betsy Devos, Donald Trump’s education secretary, is a key donor to the Michigan fund.⁶⁷
Viceland.com, Infowars.com, Reddit.Com, 4Chan.org,8chan.net, Ron Paul, Anonymous, Stefan Molyneux, Stormfront.com. Bitcoin, Occupy Wall Street. It is from this confluence of cultural influences that the alt right seemed to emerge. Then, from the alt right itself came a whole host of characters, Pizza Gate and eventually Qanon. In the early days, 4chan culture had been generally anti authoritarian, their targets had included republicans and democrats alike. While they allowed racist discourse, much of this discourse was intended to be as offensive as possible, many who engaged in racist language did not actually hold racist views, although many did, much of it was purely for shock value. The hard line approach to free speech meant racism had to be accepted.
Evidence of Glow Posting:
Rewind to the period around 2013/14, many users of Reddit and 4chan began to notice a dramatic up surge in the amount of far right material being shared on these platforms. On top of this, the material shared revolved around several common themes. It was virulently anti feminist, anti Islam, anti black, pro capitalist and anti communist. Often they would quote statistics on black or immigrant crime, along with other such ‘scientific’ examples. Much of this material quoted the same sources — often the KKK website — and took the form of info-graphics and memes.
Many racist memes emerged, such as ‘tyrone’ and ‘dindu’. Tyrone was a caricature young black male, ‘dindu’ referred to black people in general and was supposed to denote the perceived tendency of black people to say they ‘didn’t do nothing’ when arrested. These were widely shared on 4chan and Reddit and not only widely shared but seemingly widely accepted. Where before this current had been relegated to only the darkest parts of these forums, now suddenly it began to take front page. Alongside this came the hero worship of Donald Trump as he announced his presidential run.
It did not take long for forum users themselves to find out what appeared to be the source of all this. A Reddit post from 2013 stated that Reddit had been deliberately invaded by trolls from Stormfront⁶⁸. The poster provides links to various threads from Swarmfront, a website connected to Stormfront. It is from here that Stormfront had been conducting their operations, sharing resources -including for purpose apps- and coming up with protocol for mass dissemination of far right material. These protocols were called ‘bugs’. It was from here also that they coordinated attacks.
In the comments of this Reddit post another user claims this has been common knowledge for at least 2 years. So supposedly this particular strain of far right influence goes back as far as 2011, right around the time of occupy wall street. The posts revealing this appeared all over Reddit and 4chan, the user base was not surprised. Many who used the internet around that time, particularly those on the left, will attest to how effective this dissemination of mass propaganda was. The effect of ‘stormf*gs taking over 4chan’ is a widely known and not disputed feature of 4chan history, even by the stormf*gs themselves.
Stormfront was founded by Don Black. Don Black cut his political teeth working on the gubernatorial campaign for J.B. Stoner⁶⁹. Stoner himself was a famous segregationist convicted of bombing a black church⁷⁰. Also working on the campaign was Jerry Ray, brother of James Earl Ray, the man who assassinated Martin Luther King. In fact, Jerry Earl Ray also shot Don Black, in a debacle over some sensitive documents⁷¹. Don Black joined and became Birmingham state organiser for the KKK in 1975, one year after David Duke took lead of the organisation. Black’s wife, ex wife of David Duke, is a high level assistant to Pepe Fanjul, a sugar magnate with business interests in Latin America.⁷²
With other members of the Klan, Black was sentenced to three years in prison for his part in an attempted coup in the Dominican Republic. While it is difficult to find solid information about the coup online, the book Bayou of Pigs, by Canadian journalist Stewart Bell, was published in August 2008. What I can say is that he spent time in prison for the incident, and during that time, vowed to send a KKK unit to Nicaragua in order to help the Contras fight against the Sandinista revolution. It is a fact that the Contras were backed by the C.I.A and involved in numerous international espionage plots. I give no source, I state this as common fact as one states the friendly relations between the UK and the USA as a common fact. Google the Iran Contra affair.
So, case closed, the internet was overtaken by far right trolls. Far right trolls with loose connections to the intelligence services. With rising concerns about immigration and terrorism, their ideas just happened to permeate into the popular imagination and begin to appear everywhere throughout the mainstream media, then seemingly helped get a billionaire nominated and elected president, along with several other candidates and political causes around Europe and the world, causing a long string of mass shootings, racist attacks and terrorist attacks, as well as a huge shift in the overton window in the western world rightward, all under the guise of being ‘anti-establishment’. This to the point at which some declared conservatism to be ‘the new punk rock.’ As we will see, as a punk band, the alt-right are The Sex Pistols, manufactured, corporate and fake. On top of that, the alt-right ultimately always ending up in scenarios comparable to stabbing your girlfriend over a bag of heroine.
When we examine more closely the reality is sinister. Note use of the word sinister. It is really here that our story properly begins. It is on investigation of the origins of this far right content that in fact we find Swarmfront to be only the tip of the ice berg when it comes to covert influence of online communities, Reddit and 4chan in particular. As we will see, Swarmfront are not the only murky organisation posting propaganda on the internet and in fact, may be part of a much wider propaganda network.
It has long been suggested by users that intelligence agencies and other interests post subversively on 4chan and Reddit. In the early days they were known as ‘shills’, a term often used by Alex Jones, more recently the term has evolved into ‘glow in the dark n*****s’ or ‘glowies’ . Throughout the period around the 2016 elections, the common jibe for anyone deemed to be posting anti Trump ideas was that they were from ‘Correct the Record’, Hillary Clinton’s own online army. More generally, posters are also accused of being ‘JIDF’ or the ‘Jewish Internet Defence Force’ believed to be backed by Israel.
I believe both of these groups exist. In fact, many organisations admit openly to engaging in these activities, or at the very least, to doing things very similar to this. It is no secret that millions of dollars were spent funding an internet troll army for Hillary Clinton during her election campaign. The stated aim was to combat anti Hillary Clinton posters on social media⁷⁴. Let us consider 4chan and Reddit well within the definition of social media. Where else then would you go to post pro Hillary Clinton memes but the home of her enemies? This is however, unconfirmed and still in the realm of conjecture. It may well be Correct the Record simply preached to their own choir on Facebook and twitter and such, which would be more in fitting with their general campaign strategy.
As well as this, far from an anti-semitic conspiracy theory, we have a website specifically dedicated to promoting pro Israeli propaganda proudly reporting on the existence of the ‘Jewish internet defence force’⁷⁵, and quite right I suppose, if the goal is to tackle anti-semitism rather than to promote Zionism.
Again, if I was combating antisemitism, (or promoting Zionism) on the internet, the first place I would go is 4chan. The Guardian have also reported on Israeli state internet troll armies⁷⁶. The same article also refers to Turkish, British, Russian, Ukrainian and Chinese troll armies. Now, while there is little evidence even circumstantial in this article suggesting that many of these armies frequented 4chan or Reddit, I cannot see why they would not, given the popularity and influence of these sites. Though this is also still conjecture. Indeed, we might think such fringe sites like these are of little interest to national governments. There are however several smoking guns which reveal the truth.
The the main source of the ‘shilling’, is not Hillary Clinton, or JIDF, although as we have seen, they very may well be one source. It would appear in fact that the main sources is none other than the US Airforce, or US intelligence agencies working from a US Airforce base.
This was revealed by accident by Reddit administrators in 2015. They published, and subsequently removed, a blog post which showed the most ‘Reddit addicted’ cities in the world. As it turned out, the most Reddit addicted city in the world was in fact Eglin Air force Base in Florida. What started as a fun way to engage with the user-base ended in revealing that a huge number of their posts come from a US air-force base, making it the biggest concentrated group of posters anywhere in the world. The most influential force in the Reddit community are the posters posting from Eglin Airforce Base⁷⁷.
Eglin Air Force Base is not just any air force base. For one thing, many of the projects there are funded and managed by D.A.R.P.A, who we will remember were instrumental in the creation of the internet itself, and have a long history of disturbing activities⁷⁸. In recent years Eglin Air Force base has been used to develop hyper-sonic weapons⁷⁹, and more damningly, several research papers are accredited to the airforce base. Many of these papers appear under the name of Eduardo L Pasilio JR. One such paper, entitled ‘Containment Control for a Social network with State-dependent Connectivity’⁸⁰, talks explicitly about the manipulation of social media users. Another one of his papers produced at Eglin Airforce base is entitled, ‘Model Based Learning of Information Diffusion On Social Media Networks’.Many of his other papers relate to systems and network theories⁸¹. Clearly then, intelligence agencies, in this case US intelligence agencies, are keenly interested in influencing these online spaces. Judging by their post history are very active in doing so.
While it is difficult to say for sure precisely what influence they wish to apply, when we consider the history of the US intelligence services and military, it should definitely be a cause for concern. On top of that, in some instances, the objective has been clear. In 2019 Reddit hosted an AMA (ask me anything) by one Rushan Abbas, who claimed to be a Uighur being persecuted by the Chinese state⁸². In fact, she is somebody who has 15 years experience in various US intelligence related positions, including the state department and working at none other than Guantanamo Bay⁸³. This at a time when the US has been ramping up tensions with China by making all kinds of spurious accusations against them as part of their trade war and military pivot to the south China Sea.
Also concerning is the culture surrounding Reddit. Many consider it a place where people can discuss freely and intelligently all the issues of the day. Is an opinion you picked up on Reddit your opinion or the opinion of Eglin Air Force base? Is that comment getting thousands of likes and rising to the front page because lots of people agree or because Eglin Air Force Base agrees? Are Eglin Air Force base employees moderators on this site?
The influence of Reddit cannot be underestimated, it is the 19th most used website on earth, ranking above Netflix, and unlike Netflix or many of the other websites above it, amazon, google, Wikipedia, yahoo, it has a large and engaged userbase-engaged beyond purchasing of products-, who to some extent organise themselves and exert political pressure.
Along side this, the Vault 7 leaks lead to many disclosures about the workings of US intelligence. One such disclosure, more comically, exposed the fact that a CIA agent has been an active poster on a my Little Pony Role Playing board on 4chan. On the board users pretend to be characters from my little pony, often with lewd themes⁸⁴.
An article in GG magazine about the NSA states, ‘The fun and games are sometimes dispiriting to read. In the NSA’s Hawaii operations centre, civilian and enlisted personnel used their work machines to circulate dozens of photo memes that originated on Reddit, 4chan, and somethingawful.com’⁸⁵.
The workplace atmosphere here might have something to do with the army and intelligence services recent recruiting tactics. Since the very emergence of videogames, D.A.R.P.A approached many video game developers with ideas for video games that would recruit soldiers and these ideas were in many cases implemented. The game Full Spectrum Warrior, for example, was co-developed by a team at USC Institute for Creative Technologies which in 1999 became an official US Army University Affiliated Research Center. The game was set in a fictional middle eastern country and was launched as both a game for recreational use and as a recruitment tool. The outlet also released ‘America’s Army’ , a free to play PC game,which was launched in 2002 and still exists today, that doubles as a military recruitment tool⁸⁶. The US and British armies both use Xbox controllers to fly combat drones⁸⁷.
On 8chan, the /v/ board, which was for video games, was second biggest board after the /pol/ board for fascist politics. So too on 4chan the /v/ board is extremely active and on Reddit videogames are constantly discussed. More recently, with the advent of video games and TV streaming, both the military and intelligence services have attempted to recruit young people through these channels. The military has gone as far as to set up Esports teams and recruit from related twitch streams⁸⁸. As well as this, the intelligence services have also tried to appeal to this demographic, targeting streaming services⁸⁹.This came with a new advertising campaign, which stylises working at the CIA like some kind of action movie⁹⁰.
The US military/intelligence services are also not the only shady interests to have directly evidenced to have astroturfed Reddit. Palmer Luckey, also known as the founder of virtual reality gaming experience Oculus Rift, admitted openly in 2016 that he had funded to the tune of millions a troll army dedicated to posting anti Clinton, pro Trump memes on Reddit. He himself was a Reddit user who went by the moniker ‘nimble rich man’ and posted frequently in the Subreddit The_Donald, from which he drew his army⁹¹.He sold his Oculus Rift platform to Facebook for 2 Billion dollars⁹².
So too, while without political motivation, a teenager in Macedonia found his own capital motivation in promoting Donald Trump online, deliberately spreading fake news to Trump supporters in the run up to the election, and using the money to drink moet and drive BMWs⁹³.
A much more prolific culprit however, is a figure little known outside of the far Right and those who pay attention to it, yet called by some Britain’s foremost far right activist, Jim Dowson. Dowson is a Former BNP and Britian first member and financial backer. He is also a millionaire banker, a pastor and a former ulster loyalist militant. He has been extremely open about his use of social media and the internet to promote his far right views. While in public he advocates a christian crusader outlook, in interviews he talks of defending ‘the white race’, believing in particular that Ulster Scots are ‘pound for pound the best you will get from the white race’⁹⁴.
In 2016 he founded the Patriot News Agency and set up offices in Bulgaria, Hungary and Serbia with the help of Alexandre Dugin, a far right ‘National Bolshevik’ with ties to the Russian state⁹⁵. Dugin has also appeared on the Alex Jones Show. The Patriot News agency is, according to the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network, ‘a sprawling network of websites and social media pages which dwarfs many mainstream news outlets and political parties.’ Users of these pages included three sitting British M.Ps.⁹⁶
This network was set up with the specific stated intention of spreading ‘devastating anti-Clinton, pro-Trump memes and sound bites into sections of the population too disillusioned with politics to have taken any notice of conventional campaigning’⁹⁷. This may not in itself prove influence on Reddit and 4chan specifically, but there are other clues which suggest strongly that he used these platforms. For one thing, the specific use of the word ‘meme’ by itself invokes connections to 4chan and Reddit culture, these places are in some ways the home of memes.
In particular, far right users of 4chan and Reddit, around the period in the run up to Donald Trumps election, frequently shared memes of crusaders, in particular crusaders in Templar garb, often with the slogan ‘deus vult’. Mr Dowson himself regularly tweets the slogan. On 4chan these memes depicted crusaders fighting invading Muslims, Immigrants, SJWs etc. Many posted pictures of themselves wearing armour and carrying swords in the crusader style, many even turned up to protests dressed in such garb.
Aside from the Patriot News Agency, Jim Dowson is known for his work in many fascist outfits. He was a founder of the British National Party, an anti abortion campaigner and self proclaimed veteran of the Irish troubles, on the loyalist side. His most recent endeavour is called The Knights Templar International, a supposed renewal of the famed Christian Crusader military unit, yes, that would be the one referenced in the Da Vinci Code and Assassins Creed. The group even claims to operate out of Rossyln, Dowson being a Scottish National. Dowson and the order believes a great upheaval is to come, requiring a new crusade, for which they must prepare.
The writer for the above New York Times article notes that, ‘Many of the postings appear to be lifted from other conspiracy websites, repackaged and launched back into the social media maelstrom.’ I think it is safe to assume then that if his offices full of far right meme spreaders across several countries were not directly spreading media on 4chan and Reddit, then they were at the very least likely to be recycling content that came from 4chan and Reddit. If not this, than certainly much of their content would have been recycled in these forums. Dowson claims to have been producing thousands of memes and reaching 1.7 million Americans every week.
My personal belief is that they were most likely directly spreading memes on 4chan and Reddit. For one thing, the sites were constantly in the news during that period, particularly news to do with the far right, it would be virtually impossible that this network did not come across 4chan and Reddit. From there, I would hypothesise a network of this nature would absolutely have no moral qualms spreading their material anonymously, in forums associated with child pornography, as if someone else had done it. Then, as stated above, there is a huge overlap between the types of content posted, a direct overlap in fact.
Finally, as I have touched on several times, and will touch on again in this article, the Donald Trump election campaign, which Dowson’s stated aim was supporting- with devastating memes into sections of society which shunned conventional media- made many open references to Reddit and 4chan culture. Donald Trumps own twitter account posted a Pepe meme, many in his campaign had connections with those on the alt right who openly frequent the board. This besides the fact that it simply makes tactical sense, these websites are extremely popular hubs of far right material.
The Nationalist Central Intelligence International:
It cannot be claimed either that Jim Dowson was isolated from this American political sphere. There is a large amount of documented evidence of Jim Dowson travelling all over the world, mostly Eastern Europe, Russia and America, spreading his message of a modern day Crusade, He is described by Hope Not Hate — a British group who document and monitor the far right- as the number 1 link between the US and UK on the far right⁹⁸. He has ties to many figures on the American far right and indeed has stated that it was his intention with the patriot news agency to emulate Brietbart. In the above interview, Dowson stated that he intends to purchase a church in America where affiliates can be knighted.
As well as this Dowson has cultivated strong links with the Russian government and Russian far right. Dowson is an outspoken supporter of Vladimir Putin, and KTI members have been seen with aides of Alexandr Dugin⁹⁵ the far right ‘National Bolshevik’ ideologue, whose ideology is said to permeate Putins government. Alongside this it was Dugin who helped Dowson set up the Patriot News Agency. Dowson also spoke at the Russian Conservative Forum⁹⁹, where he showed a picture of Putin riding a bear and said the British right envied his masculinity, calling their own leaders ‘feminised men’.
The Knights Templar International are known for supplying material support to various militant right wing groups across eastern Europe- and the world. In the radio interview Dowson claims the KTI has militants in Syria. Indeed we have seen evidence of meetings with the Syrian Social Nationalist Party and military action during the Syrian civil war. He also makes reference to agents in the Philippines and there is documented evidence of the KTI providing material support to right wing militants in Kosovo.
Another example of this material support is the supplying of drones, body armour and other military items to the Bulgarian Border militia BNO Shikpa. Also affiliated to this group is Igor Zorin, an ex Russian Special forces agent, part of a paratrooper regiment affiliated with the GRU- Russian military intelligence. He provides military training to the group⁹⁵.
As has been flogged to death by the liberal press and as much as I do not like to dwell on this subject, I will say that besides the evidence I have just provided, there has has been some evidence coming from the liberal press of general support for Donald Trump coming from Russia during the election period.
The water on this subject is very muddied. U.S. intelligence services accuse Russia of interfering in Donald Trumps election, Russia accuses sources inside Ukraine. There are evidence of bot networks operating from Russia, there is also evidence of bot networks operating under the purview of the US intelligence services. There is large amounts of evidence of both Russian and US intelligence operating in Ukraine, which is not at all surprising. The irony is, whichever group is responsible in this situation, all are involved in far right misinformation and all ultimately serve the interests of their nations capitalists. Of these options, whatever the source, the alt-right is singing from one of their hymnbooks. Very likely, it is a strong mix of all.¹⁰⁰¹⁰¹¹⁰²
In fact, when examining Dowson’s connections, we begin to see an interesting tension within the European, eastern European, and global far right revolving around Russia and support for various sides of the conflict in Ukraine¹⁰³. It was Eduard Limonov, another founding member of the Russian National Bolshevik party, who helped to organise some of the Russian backed factions in Ukraine⁹⁵. The far right in Hungary lead by Victor Orban, in France By Marine Le Pen,in Italy by Matteo Salvini, in Serbia by the Serbian Radical Party, as well as other, are part the more pro Russian far right sphere, as is Jim Dowson.
The other faction is spearheaded by Ukraine and the network forming around the Azov Battalion, which fights against Russian backed forces in Ukraine. This faction also includes Poland, Croatia and some Scandinavian countries. It is worth noting that even though this is broadly the case, there are Russian Neo Nazis also fighting with the Azov Battalion and Neo Nazis from all over eastern Europe and Russia who support both sides¹⁰⁴.On top of this, while they are anti Russian in their border disputes and neuroses about invasion, most see Russian culture as less degenerated than that of Europe. This is merely a reflection of the most established far right groups of these respective countries. It is an interesting contradiction within the nationalist mindset still.
The far right connections go right through the Ukrainian conflict at every level on all sides, so to, we should not be surprised to find the respective intelligence connections going right through the conflict at every level on all sides. It should go without saying that Russian intelligence agents are involved deeply in the conflict in Ukraine, which has after all become essentially a border conflict between Russia and Nato, with Nato as the aggressor. There have been several instances on both sides where accusations of espionage have been made.
As I have previously stated Dowson himself is connected to Russian state through the BNO Shikpa militia and National Bolshevik elements in the Russian state to name but a few of his ties. As well as this , in the above interview, Jim Dowson claims to have been a loyalist militant in Ireland, while this might be a dubious connection, it is worth bearing in mind that there was substantial collusion between British Intelligence and loyalist paramilitaries during the troubles.¹⁰⁵¹⁰⁶
As well as this, the KTI, according to the interview with Dowson, is a religious military order. In this order, Dowson says, ‘orders are for following not questioning.’ While he seemingly appears as its public face, the order is actually run by a ‘council of nine’ who are ‘eminent people’ from whom Dowson himself takes instruction. He says ‘I’ll take my council of 9 over democracy’. I have no idea who this ‘council of nine’ is, that is for another article. I will leave you to speculate on what sort of people they might be. Consider that Dowson himself is a millionaire.
The opposing Azov battalion faction are deep in the pockets of the various Nato or MNNA intelligence agencies. The Azov battalion carry Israeli Tabur rifles, used by Israeli special forces, which are only made and distributed under license by the Israeli state, suggesting that the Azov battalion have this tacit consent from the Israeli government¹⁰⁷ . We might find it strange that the Israeli state fund a Neo Nazi group but it is also well known that the anti Russian faction in Ukraine receives lavish support from the US, Canada and other western countries allied with Israel. This to the extent that a bill was introduced in US congress specifically to stop arms getting into the hands of the Neo Nazi Azov Battalion. This bill carried, but was then revoked by congress¹⁰⁸. Members of Azov battalion have also appeared in strange places, such as Hong Kong during the 2019/2020 riots¹⁰⁹. Perhaps with the same intention as Rushan Abbas.
On top of this, Azov Battalion are not the only far right outlet that receive direct funding from Zionist interests. From earlier in the article we will remember Jack Posobiec and Gavin Mciness, both of whom contributed to The Rebel Media, which is funded by Ezra Levant, a Zionist. Gavin Mciness has previously been criticised for going on an anti-Semitic rant, and Posobiec regularly shares conspiracy theories tied up deeply in anti semitism.
Another contributor to The Rebel Media is Tommy Robinson, a British Far right football hooligan who, like Jim Dowson, was a member of the British National Party and who, like Dowson, has connections to Ulster Loyalism¹¹⁰. Tommy Robinson is funded by Robert Shillman, who is also part of the The Friends of Israel, a Zionist lobbying group. He is also funded by the Middle East Forum, another Zionist think tank, the Gatestone institute, another Zionist think tank of which John Bolton was president for a period, and the David Horowitz Freedom centre, another Zionist think tank¹¹¹.
Azov Battalion, like Dowson, have developed a global network of far right activists, including a large network of MMA events and Music events¹¹². Indeed, far right activists from across Europe and the globe travel to Ukraine in order to receive training from the Azov battalion in weapons and tactics¹¹³. One such group is the Rise Above Movement from the US, who have their own MMA and music network and have sent representatives to MMA and Music events in Ukraine . The group hails from southern California. Interesting to note is that in the 70’s Californian intelligence services at the very least flirted with the idea of making a right wing group in order to counter act the left¹¹⁴.
To add credence to this suggestion, more recently it was revealed that the founder and leader of The Base, is an intelligence agent. The base is a Neo Nazi group with global membership. The Base acted as a go between for many different far right groups, a way to network them. In this capacity, members of most prominent far right groups belonged to the base, including Azov Battalion and Atomwaffen Division members. Its leader, US-born Rinaldo Nazzaro, is a 46 year old who has a long history of advertising his services as an intelligence, military and security contractor. He has claimed, under his alias, to have served in Russia and Afghanistan¹¹⁵.
On a cache of guerrilla warfare instruction videos, he is named as ‘Defence Studies expert and former CIA field intelligence officer Norman Spear’. The reach of the Base was extremely large, and in particular collected a lot of the most radical elements of the far right. Many associates of The Base, which was not itself a member organisation, were members of other organisations, and it became a network between them. One such group is Atomwaffen division, famous for several murders and other terrorist activities. Many members of Atomwaffen and the base believe in accelerationism, that is, committing acts of terror that are specifically designed to cause discord and speed up a predicted collapse of society.
The Base,when translated into Arabic, becomes Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda themselves were well known to have many intelligence links¹¹⁶. They also believe in bringing about an apocalyptic war between themselves and Israel through terrorist attacks and were explicit about this, as did ISIS. As well as this, Al Qaeda acted in a similar manner to the base, as go between for similarly minded but different Islamic groups. One of Osama Bin Laden’s jobs for example was as a money mover between different aligned Islamist groups¹¹⁷.
Perhaps this name match up is merely a strange coincidence. Yet, when we look back to Jim Dowson’s operation, according to his own interview, the KTI is a also a multi-card organisation, members are members of various different groups. In fact, Dowson claims to be in the business of uniting white identity groups who have previously been in contention or conflict with one another. The KTI’s focus was on developing preexisting groups and providing them with training, particularly in Dowson’s case around social media. Most of the groups he interacts with also seem to be armed or have the potential to do violence. All of this under the instruction of the mysterious ‘council of 9’.
Satanic Commie Pinko Death Cult and globalist mind control:
The story gets even stranger when we consider another UK based white supremacist group, The Order of the Nine Angles. Nine again, Order again, and in the UK. While there is little direct evidence connecting the 09A to Intelligence agencies, when we look at how they operate, and some of their connections, we find some serious irregularities. The O9A is an Occult Satanic organisation. They would call it a Numinous and Sinister organisation. The 09A has been around since the 1970’s and has always been notorious, but managed to utilise the internet to greatly increase the scope of their propaganda in the early 2000’s. The 09A is famous for, and indeed, believes specifically in, adopting completely the lifestyle of other people for at least 18 months in order to gain philosophical and spiritual insight. This practice is called adopting an ‘insight role’¹¹⁸.
In particular, they are encouraged to take on roles in various groups including the military, the police, neo nazi groups, feminist groups, environmentalist groups, churches, etc. They are encouraged then to become as extreme as possible in that group and once ingratiated sow discord and chaos, converting members to the 09A. They believe this process will make them mentally and spiritually robust, and at the same time that these acts will help bring about the destruction of ‘magian society’. Magian society loosely translates as Jewish society. Once destroyed in apocalyptic conflict, the Order will be Able to establish a ‘Galactic Imperium’. This idea is what is known as ‘the sinister dialectic’.
While membership of the base, or Al Quaeda or the KTI was fairly easy to attain, order of the 9 Angles candidates must complete challenging spiritual tasks before they can consider themselves a member.These tasks include completing a long hike very fast with a weight on your back, staying in the woods by oneself for months on end, insight roles, staying alone in a cave for a month and ‘culling’.
The group was formed and led by an unknown individual named Anton Long, whom many suspect is David Myatt. It is worth noting there is debate on his identity as Anton Long, with respectable scholars on both sides. David Myatt is a well known British white supremacist, who, like Jim Dowson, was once involved with the BNP. Dowson as a funder and member, Myatt as the militant leader of Combat 18, a group set up to defend the BNP¹¹⁹ .
Combat 18 also had links to eastern European Neo Nazis through another associated Nazi group Blood and Honour. Myatt was also a member of Column 88, who, according to several authors, were set up under Operation Gladio¹²⁰¹²¹. Operation Gladio is the name given to the well known ‘stay behind’ operations, where intelligence services funded mostly far right militias in order to defend from the supposed threat of communist invasion in Europe after WWII. in fact the groups funded served to disrupt socialism in Europe. Myatt also has links to Loyalists in Northern Ireland and Loyalist football hooligans in Britain¹²²¹²³.
The connections appear to run deep, Myatt was a close associate of Colin Jordan, a notable far right figure and member of the league of Empire Loyalists. Esoteric Fascist Oswald Mosley and several high ranking military officers were also members. The group would later merge with the first iteration of the BNP to become the National Front. Myatt also founded the National Socialist Movement in the 60’s, and was a founding member of several other groups. Similar to the the above mentioned Nazi groups, Myatt was a martial arts expert .
Unlike the stereotypical Nazi however Myatt was also a prolific producer and scholar of esoteric material. This includes both inside and outside of the 09A writings supposedly attributed to him. 09A materials include over ten thousand pages of mystic satanic teachings, often hand written, these have gained considerable influence in occult communities. He is said to have directly influenced David Copeland, the London nail bomber who targeted black, Asian and gay areas. Copeland was a member of the National Socialist movement Myatt founded¹²⁴.
If we are to believe Myatt is Anton Long, we might then make another interesting connection between the 09A and intelligence services. Primarily we might look at the fact that later on in his life, around the time of the ‘war on terror’, Myatt became a prominent advocate of Al Qaeda. Throughout his life, Myatt advocated for a number of different esoteric ideologies and spiritualities, perhaps fitting with the 09A’s program of insight roles, with Myatt adopting various spiritualities, or perhaps fitting with shifting intelligence priorities.
Myatt spent much of his life travelling Asia and Africa. According to his own writings about his life, it was in Egypt that he found the true appeal of Islam¹²⁵. Another interesting connection that stems from Egypt is his relationship with former Nazi General Otto Ernst Remer. Myatt claims to have received a framed photograph of Hitler from Remer. This is entirely plausible, given Remer fled to Egypt for a time and Myatt spent a lot of time in Egypt himself. Both were also ensconced in international right wing communities at high levels. Ernst Remer is also no normal Nazi, he was a general who was involved in crushing a coup against Hitler. This involved taking orders directly from Hitler himself and being promoted 2 ranks for following them.
As well as this it was not only German Nazis who held esoteric beliefs and recieved support from intelligence agencies. Indeed, when we talk of esoteric and occult fascism, the very first name that comes to our mind is that of Julius Evola. Evola is famous for such titles as ‘Ride The Tiger’ and ‘Revolt Against the Modern World’. Evola was an aristocrat heavily involved in the literary and academic scene alongside such figures as Phillipo Tomasso Marinetti. Marinetti is the author of the first Futurist Manifesto, and then the original Fascist Manifesto which used a lot of the same ideas. Interesting to note, the Futurist manifesto went on to influence Dada and through Dada huge swathes of modern art and literature. Marinetti would come to be persecuted by Hitler for promoting degenerate art, but that is another story.
Evola himself believed very similar things to Myatt, magick, instilling a warrior spirit, and attacking the modern world with nihilistic fanaticism. Evola was also obsessed with religious orders and secrets societies. Indeed, he particularly favoured organisations such as the original Knights Templar, for their multinational, pan European ethos. Evola was known however for writing against Christianity, preferring the occult and ancient ways of ordering society¹²⁶. Evola was also linked directly to Operation Gladio through Prince Junio Valerio Borghese, who was the Office Of Strategic Services main contact in Italy throughout the war and after. Borghese even wrote the introduction to Evola’s book ‘Men Among The Ruins’¹²⁷. The OSS is widely known as the precursor organisation to the C.I.A.
To jump forward in time, we can say at the very least say with certainty that the 09A have not only influenced a great deal of terrorist groups but have had active membership within these groups. Indeed many on the far right believe Atomwaffen Division and related British SonnenKrieg division, to be merely a front for the 09A¹²⁸. Indeed, such was their involvement in these groups that it caused a controversial split within Atomwaffen. Atom Waffen Division of course, were involved in The Base¹²⁹, which as we know was lead by an intelligence agent. Atom Waffen also sought training in Ukraine with the Nato Funded Azov Battalion, who of course, as we know, receive direct Nato funding.
Like Myatt and Dowson, Atomwaffen division believe apocalyptic events are soon coming. Atomwaffen division pay particular attention to the writings of the 09A which were originally required reading. Other required reading included the works of William Luther Pierce and James Mason. Mason was inspired by the 09A and knew Pierce personally as a youth, in fact, Pierce once convinced Mason not to carry out a mass shooting at his school¹³⁰.
Pierce, another American of Scots-Irish descent, worked for Pratt and Witney, a subsidiary of Raytheon. Pierce is most famous for writing The Turner Diaries, a fictional depiction of a white supremacist revolution and genocide, started by an underground guerrilla group who caused chaos and disorder to speed the collapse of ‘the system’¹³¹. The Turner Diaries was released in 1978, just two years after the 09A’s first mass publication, which also featured the deliberate stoking of political tensions in order to destroy Jewish society, as we have seen.
James Mason was a prominent member of Atomwaffen division. Before this, in 1992 he published his collected writings from the magazine Seige. This writings included praise of Charles Manson among other regular far right figures and the usual advocation of a terrorist acts designed to bring about a race war. These would also become mandatory Atomwaffen reading.
The praise of Charles Manson we might take as the incidental worship of a racist psychopath by other racist psychopaths, and that is true. However, according to the recently published book by Tom O’Neil, Chaos, the Manson case is not as seems. In fact, according to O’Neil and based on 20 years of research, Charles Manson and his family were quite possibly, in fact almost definitely, a product of the CIA’s Mkultra mind control program.
For those who do no know, it is has been admitted, at the request of several state inquests, that during the post second world war period, right up to 1973, the Central Intelligence Agency conducted millions of dollars worth of research into mind control. The techniques used were many and various, but included included the covert administration of high doses of drugs, in particular LSD, as well as electric shocks,hypnosis, sensory deprivation, isolation, verbal and sexual abuse, alongside other forms of torture. The doctor most associated with Mkultra, Dr D Ewen Cameron, an American of Scots-Irish descent, pioneered a strategy called ‘physic driving’¹³². The aim of this technique was to cause depersonalisation, breaking down the subjects personality, so that a new personality could be made.
To keep it brief, as it turns out, a doctor involved in Mkultra treated Manson prior to his actions. As well as this on several occasions Manson and his followers were let out of prison under suspicious circumstance and many crimes committed by them appear to have been covered up by the police. On top of this, even prior to O’Neil’s investigations, without being prompted, many different people have talked about how Manson’s charisma feels like mind control.
O’Neil posits that the Manson gang was created in order to disrupt and demonise the hippy movement and thus the anti war movement and other left wing movements, in order to whip up a quintessentially evil other for white middle class America to rail against. He presents 500 pages worth of evidence on the subject, suffice to say in my own personal view it is convincing.¹³³¹³⁴
Manson regularly talked about his idea of ‘helter-skelter’. This is, imagine my shock, the concept of an apocalyptic race war which would bring about the destruction of current society and the ascension of the Aryan race, lead by Manson and his followers, to power. Manson is famous for tattooing a swastika onto his forehead. Manson was also famous in that he did not actually conduct many of the crimes carried out in his name, rather he was said to be an extremely convincing and charismatic individual, who persuaded his followers to carry out the crimes. Manson’s family was mostly women, a gang he called his wives. His family were drawn from the hippy movement, which itself was deeply intertwined with oriental philosophy, the occult and drug use.
We might draw parallels in fact, between David Myatt (or Anton Long) and Charles Manson. Long/Myatt, so the story goes, became leader of the 09A when it was mostly made up of women, it is, supposedly, a mostly female order. He lead a gang of mostly women. These people were drawn from the British occult scene, which like its American counter part had deep ties to the hippy and drug culture. Myatt/Long also believed in a version of ‘helter-skelter’ and bringing that about through violent ‘witchy’ acts. Myatt/Long also acted to influence others, though they probably got their hands dirty often, their true power was in their ability to make others commit heinous acts in their name.
Perhaps most interestingly, it is quite explicit in 09A writings that the tasks in the 7 fold path are designed to destroy the old weak ‘mundane’ personality of before leaving in its place a new strong personality. Indeed, the ‘insight role’ is central to the philosophy of the 09A and specifically involves becoming a different person, repeatedly, perhaps to the point where you forget your original personality. Sort of like deliberately brainwashing yourself.
Other tasks on the 7 fold path as previously discussed include staying in a cave alone for one month, with no light and nothing to tell the time. This sort of sensory deprivation was also researched during Mkultra. We might also bare in mind that, the UK intelligence services were also involved in mind control experiments involving LSD¹³⁵. and on top of that, according to the 09A account, Myatt appears on the scene in 1973, just as Mkultra is officially shut down in America. Many suspect it continued. This is also only a few years after the Manson affair.
Most interesting of all perhaps, is the story of Kurt Plotner, a devoted Nazi who conducted research on Jewish and Communist prisoners in Dachau. The experiments, you might be able to guess, involved the administration of drugs, particularly the hallucinogenic drug mescaline, for the purpose of interrogation. Plotner was also among those Nazis who were transported to America under Operation Paperclip and allowed to continue their research. He was recruited by one Boris Pasch, who would go on to become part of Opeartion BlueBird, a subdivision of Project Mkultra.¹³⁶
While I have as yet seen no direct evidence linking Myatt to these programs, the similarities between Myatt and Manson are striking. We might say, Myatt was merely influenced by Manson or is a copycat, yet it is difficult to see how else Myatt could have known to emulate whatever it is Mkultra instilled in Manson, given this is new information, and yet he did.
When we consider further his links to the British state and Ulster Loyalism, which was itself mixed up in intelligence, as well as his links to Column 88, and their links to operation Gladio I think we have a fairly plausible case at the very least for his connections to intelligence services.
To bring it back to our original story, Atomwaffen Division, and The Base, primarily existed as online entities. Their members met online, discussed and spread information online, were known to have posted in 4chan and to have ran Discord and Telegram channels, most likely then they also posted on 8chan, Reddit and other places. While they met up in real life and did real life things, including murder, they were very much a part of the online culture. Atomwaffen division are noted for their slick and striking online aesthetic, which has become the standard garb for far right militias.
The aesthetic includes: skull face masks and military garb, usually in vapour wave style videos and images. They call this ‘fashwave’. Many of the videios and images depict the firing of AR15s and other training. It is interesting to note that the original vapourwave style was invented by a trans woman. These style of videos have become extremely prevalent on the far right, in many ways Atomwaffen are the quintessential Neo Nazi movement of our day. The premier representation of the Alt Right.
The ideology of the 09A has had a marked influence on Atomwaffen and many other right wing groups. Even without direct intelligence links, Myatt does have a direct lineage to actual Nazis who served under Hitler and Fascists who served under Mussolini, as well as many agents of the British State and Capital.
Hitler himself, and many of his close inner circle, are well known to have had their own occult beliefs. Hitler and the Nazi party were funded and backed by capitalist interests.
James Mason the Atomwaffen higher-up, was directly influenced by Charles Manson and Luther Pierce, Luther Pierce worked in the military industrial complex and Manson was heavily influenced by intelligence services. Myatt, with his similar beliefs, may well have been a direct intelligence agent or asset. Even if he was not, the 09A acted in almost exactly the same manner as intelligence agents, they have the same material affect as intelligence agents, and certainly had active members in groups which were definitely controlled by intelligence services i.e. The Base.
So to the Azov Battalion is most likely funded at least in part by Israeli and American intelligence and is irrefutably funded directly by the American State. Azov Battalion act as a nexus around which other intelligence related far right groups such as the RAM converge. Even the other faction in Europe, Dowson’s faction, are certainly in the pocket of the Russian state and its capitalists therefore, and defend imperial interests in places such as Ireland. Dowson himself is a moderately successful capitalist, with deep connections to groups known to have colluded with British intelligence. All of these groups supported the election of Donald Trump, all of these groups contributed materially to the election of Donald Trump. All of these groups have collectively committed a large amount of violent crime and terrorist attacks, many of them claiming lives.
These are no small fish, these figures represent probably the most militant, organised and influential collection of far right interests currently existing on earth. Therefore, it is no controversy to say that in fact their views, and the views of the online alt right therefore, for the most part, come either directly from intelligence agencies, capitalists, or even the aristocratic class. The ‘swarmfront’ trolls who invaded Reddit and 4chan, operating from the website run by a former CIA coup operative are further evidence, alongside everything else I have discussed.
Remember the influence of Julius Evola, the popular alt right esoteric Nazi, on agents involved in operation Gladio, an operation to disrupt socialist movements across the Europe and the world? Julius Evola was himself an aristocrat. Who were Hitlers main ideological enemies? Such things as Operation Paperclip are well known historical facts, where large amounts of high level Nazis were absorbed into the American state after World War 2. So to many other intelligence operations are a not refuted part of history, Operation Mockingbird for example,the operation by the CIA to assume various positions in the media. Another famous operation is Cointelpro, the purpose of which was to infiltrate and sabotage political dissidents.
The backing of the Nazis by American capital and the Royal Families of Europe is well known. The existence of Neo Nazis enclaves in South America are fairly well known, perhaps less well known is their involvement in torture and child abuse under the Pinochet regime in Chile. The Pinochet regime of course backed by the CIA.
This is alongside the numerous other CIA backed groups, stretching across most of Latin America, most of the middle east, swathes of south east Asia, swathes of eastern europe, and Africa. The groups formed dictatorships or or death squads and are responsible for the slaughter of millions of people in Indonesia, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Haiti, El Salvador, Chile, Honduras, Iran etc etc etc .
In fact what we see, is not only massive state and capital involvement in the old right, the alt right, and more or less every subsequently existing form of far right ideology, but that far right ideology being used directly by capital in order to combat socialist movements across the globe. It begins to look like the far right, capital, and intelligence agencies have always been one and the same thing. More recently we see this play out with social media.
Paedophile Projection:
Before I conclude, there is one more disturbing relationship between the far right, 4chan/8chan, the internet in general and intelligence services I would like to explore. That is the relationship with the sexual abuse of children. This comes in several forms, firstly, on the surface as we have seen there is an abundance of far right conspiracy theories like Pizza Gate and Qanon, about elite satanic paedophiles who run the world. As I have also said before elite paedophiles probably do run the world, but not in the way that Q says. As well as that, the far right, particularly in Britain and Europe, have a tendency, a strong tendency, to characterise Muslims and other immigrants as paedophiles and sex offenders.
We might find it strange then that the biggest hives of far right activity on the internet, are also one of the biggest hives of paedophile activity, at least, paedophile activity that takes place in the context of the mainstream internet without any kind of secrecy. 8Chan in particular is famous for its hard line free speech stance which allowed paedophilia discussion boards on its site. The founder of the site says they are ‘the price of free speech’⁵¹ and maliciously targeted those who reported the board. In fact, on 4chan and 8chan, there are many who will argue in complete seriousness that they should be allowed to have sex with children and that there is nothing wrong with that. They will point to old traditions in society of men marrying much younger brides.
Of the host of far right groups and media outlets previously mentioned, many of them have their own connections to child sexual abuse. This is alongside many not referenced above. Take for example Milo Yianopoulous, who for a time was tech editor at Steve Bannon’s Brietbart and darling of the alt-right, particularly the softer side sometimes referred to as the “alt light”. That is, until he came under fire for a series of comments made about having sex with children, where he downplayed its seriousness and suggested he may have engaged in it or at least been around it, both as an under-aged person and as an adult¹³⁷.
Perhaps a figure I have not paid enough attention to in this article, we have questions to ask of Andrew Anglin. Anglin is a prolific Neo-nazi who, with notorious hacker ‘Weev’ created the Daily Stormer, the premier Neo-Nazi publication circa 2016. Andrew Anglin lives, or has spent a lot of time in, the Philippines. In an interview, an acquaintance tells of how, ‘Anglin hit on every pretty young Filipina he saw and had success with many of them, sometimes taking advantage of their hope that an American husband could be an exit from poverty. Most of these girls were 18 or 19 years old, but Edward says some were younger. He remembers Anglin once picking up a 14-year-old in a bar and bringing her back to the Sampaguita to spend the night.’¹⁸
Another on the Alt-Right, though perhaps not an avowed Neo Nazi, somebody more in line with the anarchic cyber Utopian dream of the early alt right, is Cody Wilson. Wilson is famous for 3D printing fire arms, with the intention of making gun control impossible. For this he is a hero on the alt right and I do admit it is a noble endeavour. However, like many of his fellows, Cody Wilson has a predilection for younger women. Indeed, he was arrested in Taiwan for sexually assaulting a 16 year old girl in 2019¹³⁸.
On the militant far right as well, the leader of Atomwaffen, aforementioned premier Neo Nazi group and possible front for satanic Group The Order of 9 Angles, connected to the Base, which was run by an intelligence agent, as well as Azov Battalion, which was funded by Nato and Israel, and who shared material from all the above mentioned media sources, who goes by the nickname ‘Rape’, was also out outed as a paedophile. In fact he had been sharing hundreds of child porn images with other members of Atomwaffen Division¹³⁹.
In Britain, the Atomwaffen related group National Action has its own relationship with paedophilia. Jack Renshaw, who was also a former BNP member, the same BNP of Jim Dowson and Tommy Robinson, was convicted in 2019 of grooming young boys online for sex¹⁴⁰.
In fact, while Tommy Robinson is famous for his campaigns against so called ‘Asian Grooming Gangs’, Robinson’s own paedophile connections are numerous. In fact on the far right in Britain, you might call paedophilia something of an epidemic. They are so numerous that I cannot for the sake of brevity describe them all, and there are probably some I have missed, so I will simply list them. From the EDL we have: Tommy Robinson himself who was caught chatting up a 15 year old Muslim girl online, 3 members of who were caught in an Anonymous Honey Trap grooming girls online, Richard Price who was convicted of possessing child pornography,Mark Selman, aka Archie Selman aka Stuart Holmes, founder of EDL’s ‘Templar church’, kidnapped and raped a 7 year old girl. We also have Mathew Woodward who was caught possessing child porn and grooming a 15 year old girl to send him pornographic images.
From the BNP we have: Nigel Hesmandhalg , found to have 29 images of child abuse and 11 videos of child abuse in his possession, 4 of these images graded in the most serious category of abuse images, Darren Francis, who groomed and had raped a 15 year old girl, Ian Hindell and Andrews Wells, who both raped 14 year old girls, Robyn Rowley, a parliamentary candidate, was charged with making, possessing, and distributing images of child abuse, organiser and council candidate IAN Si’ree was caught in possession of 138 images of child abuse, another council candidate Gavin Liest was a member of an online child abuse network, he possessed and distributed images of the abuse of boys under the age of the 13 and finally we have Robert Bennett, an organiser who is a convicted gang rapist.
From the National front we have Martin Gilleard, who was involved also with Combat 18 and the British Peoples Party, who was found with 39,000 images of child pornography. As well as this, we have Jason Owen, who is one of those charged in the infamous ‘Baby P’ case. The Baby P case was a case of child abuse which shook Britain and resulted in changes to legislation around child abuse and neglect. Another example they give is Ernest Rom, from the German National Socialist Party, who was found in bed with a 15 year old boy on the night of the Long Knives.All of the above examples were taken from a collection collated by anonymous British antifascists¹⁴¹. A salute to these comrades.
The vast majority of these examples are connected to groups we have come across before, Jim Dowson and David Myatt were both members of the BNP, as was Tommy Robinson. David Myatt was also a member of Combat 18, the EDL and BNP are deeply connected to Ulster Loyalists. Indeed it seems that there may be some connection between Jim Dowson and the nonce leader of the ‘Templar Division’ of the EDL. Tommy Robinson also worked for The Rebel Media, as did Jack Posobiec, one proponent of the Pizzagate theory. So to we have find Mike Cernovich, the pizza gateist, personally involved in the Epstein case on the wrong side.
All of this becomes even more sinister when we consider the case of Robert Childs, a three time convicted child rapist. Childs somehow managed to stay out of jail and join various activist groups, where he asked questions like ‘who are the leaders of black bloc’ . As it would turn out, Childs was a police informant who was once paid $95,000 for his involvement in the case of Abu Khalid Abdul-Latif. Specifcally, Childs encouraged the mentally ill man to plot a terror attack and subsequently destroyed large amounts of key evidence.¹⁴²
I am certainly not suggesting that this proves definitely a connection between say, the intelligence services in the UK and the pedophiles of the BNP. Rather, I am suggesting that the possibility is definitely there, being outed as a sex offender and facing your entire life in prison is a bleak prospect, one many would do almost anything to avoid. Often, when the charges relate to child pornography possession, there are few witnesses to the crimes or the arrests made. All of this seems to me ripe grounds for deals to be made. It is also no secret that there is massive collusion between MI6, MI5, the CIA and the FBI. Many of their operations are joint operations, they share intelligence from various surveillance programs. It is very easy to believe they would also share tactics such as using sex offenders as police informants.
Finally, while some of these examples are people who have ran for parliament, or stood as councillors, many of these names are nobodies in the grand scheme of things. So too, while ‘Rape’ was the head of Atomwaffen Division, a celebrity in the Neo-Nazi world, his influence pales in comparison to those attached to the Jeffrey Epstein case. Without delving in to it too far, Jeffrey Epstein by now is a common household name, infamous for his complex network of sex trafficking among the worlds upper most elite. The intelligence and state connections require another entire article, another entire book to properly comprehend. Sufficed to say his girlfriend, and accomplice in most of his crimes, Ghislaine Maxwell, is daughter of Robert Maxwell, well known for being a Mossad spy, celebrated as such even.
Epstein had many famous friends and clients, including royalty in the form of Britains Prince Andrew, who has been heavily implicated in many sex offences. Alongside this, figures such as Bill Clinton and Donald Trump. It appears in fact that Bill Clinton was a lot closer to Epstein than Trump, nonetheless, Trumps relationship with Epstein was still as friends and associates. He is quoted saying Epstein was a ‘terrific guy’ and that he , ‘likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side’¹⁴³. Trump was also accused of raping a 13 year old girl alongside Jeffrey Epstein. The woman in question however received so many death threats that she dropped the case. She was not the only witness, another woman testified corroborating her story. Donald Trump therefore, like Milo Yiannopolous, like ‘Rape’, like Tommy Robinson, like countless members of the BNP, is an alt right sex criminal. Everything that is common to the alt right, is common to Donald Trump. Donald Trump is closely associated to all of the above mentioned people, Alex Jones, Roger Stone, Gavin Mciness, Jack Posobiec, Tommy Robinson, Mike Cernovich, Jim Dowson etc.
All of these people, personally implicated in the Epstein scandal, push a narrative that muddies the waters about that scandal and distracts from the truth of that scandal.
To conclude, I now feel assured in making several claims. I believe I have shown that very many of the biggest media influences on the Alt Right are steeped in intelligence connections and are funded by the interests of capital. Tommy Robinson for example, being funded by various Zionist think tanks, or Alex Jones’s with his CIA family becoming a shill for the US president while downplaying the actions of the CIA, or Steve Bannon having formerly worked for Goldman Sachs as an investment banker, or how Mike Cernovich was close personal friends with Alan Dershowitz, or how Jack Posobiec was stationed at Guantanamo Bay, much like Rushan Abbas, who pretended to be a Uighur on Reddit.
I believe I have also shown the alt-right was in no way an organic movement. I believe I have shown that all of the alt rights most notorious channels, 4chan, 8chan, and Reddit, have all been the target of manipulation by intelligence agencies, such as those operating out of Eglin Aiforce base. I believe I have possibly shed light on the intentions behind that manipulation, such as in the case of Rushan Abbas, or in the creation of Neo Nazi groups which attack minorities and the left, such as The Base.
I believe I have shown that various influences sought to flood the internet with alt right material, many with the specific intention of helping to get Donald Trump elected, such as Jim Dowson with his eastern European meme factories and the trolls behind Swarmfront owned by a CIA coup operative. In line with this, I believe I have shown that in fact most large far right groups that operate in the world are in the pockets of intelligence agencies, if not outright founded and controlled directly by intelligence agencies, such as in the case of The Base which was run by an intelligence agent, or Jim Dowson’s ties to the Russian and British State and groups involved in operation Gladio, or Azov Battalion receiving aid from Nato.
I believe I have also shown that, with the examples of Charles Manson, the Order of Nine Angles and Julius Evola, the proliferation and use of occult and occult Nazi ideology by the intelligence services. Indeed, I believe I have shown that these occult Nazi intelligence agency groups are extremely influential on the far right.
I believe I have also shown much of the ideological material shared by those on the alt right and far right in general has its origins in intelligence or capital, such as the fact that William Luther Peirce worked for Pratt and Witney, the Raytheon subsidiary or Julius Evola’s connections to Operation Gladio, or David Myatt’s connection to operation Gladio, or the fact that Wikileaks have deemed Qanon, the foremost far right conspiracy theory, an intelligence operation, or that the ‘meme magic’ of the Donald Trump campaign was in fact paid meme factories in eastern Europe under the eye of Jim Dowson.
Indeed, I believe I have shown that in fact much of the conspiracy movement actually promotes pro intelligence state positions, such as Alex Jones. I believe I have shown that in recent times, this community has been manipulated into becoming a smokescreen for the actually existing global paedophile rings, channelling the discourse on to red herrings, and exonerating key figures such as Donald Trump.
What I think all of these individual facts prove, when taken together, is that the alt right, and indeed the far right in general, can be largely attributed to groups deliberately created by the intelligence services. While their may be very many ‘organic’ far right groups, certainly we can say the most influential are those which have the backing of various intelligence services and capital interests. On top of this, of these ‘organic’ groups, much of the ideological material they draw from was creating by these larger more influential groups. The exact purpose of intelligence and capital involvement in these groups we cannot say, but if we look at their actions, which usually involves attacking racial minorities and the left, or perceived allies of the left, and we look at why the CIA itself was created in the first place, in order to combat communism, we might have a good guess.
