30 seconds interview: ZuZu

Liverpool singer songwriter ZuZu has enjoyed a great summer with ace gigs at The Great Escape, Truck Festival and Tramlines in Sheffield.

To cap it off, she’s just released Get Off, her debut single on Hand In Hive and a big statement of intent, a three and a half minute blast of power pop as catchy as it is crunchy.

Citing Bright Eyes and Pavement as inspirations, she’s also supported Courtney Barnett which is the perfect fit for her no-nonsense indie rock. She’s the latest talent to stick her head above the parapet of Liverpool’s music scene which seems to be bursting at the gills with ace new bands and artists. Check out our feature exploring the best new acts coming out of the city. While we can’t stop listening to Get Off, we spend 30 seconds with this burgeoning new talent…

I first started writing music because…

I had no friends, and nothing to do when I left Liverpool.

I have been making music since…

About seven years old. My first band ‘Witches From Hell’ never really took off though…

My music is…

Alright like!

You’ll like my music if you listen to…

Guitar music.

My favourite venue is…

The Kazimier in Liverpool, well it used to be until it closed down. On the look out for a new one now..

Music is important because…

It helps me get my thoughts/life together.

My biggest inspiration is…

My guitarist Kurran. He’s taught me the most out of everyone.

My dream collaboration would be…

BRIGHT EYES!! Both Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis are both huge musical heroes of mine. I love Conor’s lyrical content and his delivery is always so convincing to me. Mike Mogis’ records always sound huge and beautiful. Big fan…

To try me out, listen to my song…

Get Off.

If I wasn’t making music I’d be…

Dead or sad somewhere.

In 10 years’ time I want to be…

Still making music with my friends and hopefully people will still wanna listen!
