Middlesex University is hosting a one-day classical music conference, bringing together academics, executives and creators to scrutinise the industry.

The central practices, theories and debates that empower and regulate the classical music industry will be explored during the event, which takes place on 16 October.

Composition, business and associated spheres such as politics, education, media, and copyright, will also be examined.

Organisers aim to capitalise on successful discussions on classical music practices, which have flourished over recent years, bringing in disciplines as diverse as law, education, business studies, sociology, philosophy and cultural studies.

The event will feature a keynote presentation by Gillian Moore CBE, director of the Southbank Centre in London.

PRS for Music’s classical account manager Harriet Wybor will also contribute to a session entitled The 21st Century Composer: An Art or a Business?
