Veronica Falls drummer and Boys Forever/Basic Plumbing’s Patrick Doyle has sadly passed away, aged 32.

The Scottish multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter was a prolific artist, playing in Dot to Dot, The Royal We, Correcto, Sexy Kids and Veronica Falls as well as his own solo projects, Boys Forever and Basic Plumbing.

He died suddenly and unexpectedly in Los Angeles, which Boys Forever and Veronica Falls confirmed on their Facebook pages.

A statement on both pages read: ‘He was a dear son, brother, uncle and friend, and we loved him dearly. His family are immensely proud of all he achieved.

‘We’re asking for any donations to be given to the Los Angeles LGBT Center, who were an invaluable support for Patrick.’

Doyle and singer/guitarist Roxanne Clifford formed Veronica Falls in 2009 and released their debut, self-titled album in 2011 on Bella Union. Their jangly indie sound featured Doyle’s vocals prominently and took them on tours across the world. Their second album, Waiting For Something to Happen, followed in 2013, before the members branched out into different projects.

The musician and PRS for Music member released his self-titled debut album in 2016 on Amour Foo records under the Boys Forever moniker. In December 2017, he unveiled a new project as Basic Plumbing.

Tributes on social media have poured in, with Clifford posting on Instagram: ‘Eternally grateful for the decade and more I spent laughing and making music with Patrick, a force and inspiration to me that never goes away. That’s how I remember my brilliant friend. Miss you everyday Patch.’

Fellow Veronica Falls bandmate Marion Herbain wrote on Instagram: ‘Everything hurts and it’s been hard finding the right words while dealing with feelings ranging from complete heartbreak to remorse. It hasn’t fully sunk in yet, but I’m glad I got to spend some of the best years of my life by your side, as a bandmate and a friend.’

Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos tweeted: ‘I am heartbroken by the news of the death of my friend, Patrick Doyle. Smart, funny, a great musician … I can’t sum up his life on here. I will miss him.’
