November MO2 News 4-Change

Dear Friends,
Like many of you, we have been caught up in the drama going on with the President, events occurring in Congress and in the Middle East.
Our non-responsive congresswoman has been active and recently posted this on her Facebook page and in her weekly newsletter: “I co-sponsored the resolution to censure Chairman Adam Schiff because the American people deserve an open and fair process that lays out facts, not partisan talking points.”
Joining the rest of her party in attacking process when she can’t argue facts is an old legal trick that I’m sure those of you who are lawyers are familiar with.
She has announced with some degree of bravado that she has introduced another bill to protect those with pre-existing health conditions from being denied or paying more for health insurance, but fails to mention a bill doing just that was passed by the House in May 2019.
We are watching a nervous pre-campaign Ann Wagner. Even without an announced opponent, Ann is weaving, bobbing, and trying to convince her constituents that maybe she’s really working for us.
She held a telephone town hall on Oct. 30th. The topics she hand-picked to “preach” about last night were:
- Impeachment
- Abortion (stating that we are only one of 7 industrialized nations that allow babies to be killed),
- Her sponsorship of Born Alive legislation
- Adam Schiff
In fact, NO industrialized nations allow babies to be killed!
Make no mistake — Ann Wagner works for her wealthy donors. She doesn’t work for us!
For those of you who are old enough to remember 1973–1974, once again we are living in interesting times.
We wish you a good month and a Happy Thanksgiving.

Let Wagner know what you think about her Oct. 24th vote against the SHIELD Act of 2019 — HR 4617!
The SHIELD Act of 2019 would combat foreign interference in U.S. elections by closing loopholes that allow foreign spending in U.S. elections, boosting disclosure and transparency requirements, and creating a duty to report illicit offers of campaign assistance from foreign nations. Foreign interference is a growing and insidious problem in American elections, and should be stopped. Similarly, deceptive practices that hinder voters’ registration and votes are fundamentally undemocratic and should be stopped. It passed the House. ANN WAGNER VOTED AGAINST IT!

Now House Republicans Hate The Rules They Made
From The National Memo: “The Republicans complain that the impeachment inquiry chaired by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), is occurring behind closed doors, that the president’s counsel cannot cross-examine witnesses and that their party is somehow excluded from fair participation in the proceedings. Coming from lawyers, as most of them are, this indignant whining is phony; they all know that these hearings are investigative, like a grand jury proceeding. There will be plenty of time for open hearings and, should Trump be impeached, a Senate trial with a full defense.”
“According to the Democratic members present in those closed hearings, the Republicans on the relevant committees hardly ever show up. Whenever they do drop in, most of them waste time on conspiracy theories and other nonsense — which isn’t doing the president any favors, but fully displays their intellectual laziness.”
“What the Republicans also know — but aren’t telling their bamboozled voters — is that the Democrats are conducting the impeachment inquiry under rules that the Republican majority approved in January 2015.”

’Unconstitutional’: STL lawyer says MO Republicans are breaking CLEAN Missouri rules
From Springfield News Leader: “A St. Louis government transparency advocate accused Missouri House Republicans of making a mockery of the state constitution this week.”
“In a lawsuit filed in Cole County Circuit County, attorney Mark Pedroli, who runs the Sunshine and Government Accountability Project, said House members are ignoring a voter-approved amendment that makes legislative records open to the public.”
“The action specifically targets one of the procedural rules House members approved for their chamber in January that said they can keep “constituent case files” and records pertaining to party strategy secret.”
“The rule change, proposed by Rep. Nick Schroer, R-O’Fallon, came just two months after Missouri voters overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment known as ‘Clean Missouri’ that, among other things, made the legislature subject to open records law like the rest of the government.”

Missouri health director kept spreadsheet of Planned Parenthood patients’ periods
From the Kansas City Star: “The Missouri state health director, Dr. Randall Williams, testified at a state hearing Oct. 29, that he kept a spreadsheet to track the menstrual periods of women who visited Planned Parenthood, an action that one lawmaker has called on the governor to investigate.”
“The spreadsheet, which was made at Williams’ request by the state’s main inspector, helped to identify patients who had undergone failed abortions.”
“The revelation came on the second day of an administrative commission hearing that will help decide whether Planned Parenthood can keep its license to perform abortions.”
“The spreadsheet, which was based on medical records the investigator had access to during the state’s annual inspection, also included medical identification numbers, dates of medical procedures and the gestational ages of fetuses.”
“The last column of the spreadsheet included the date of the last menstrual period of each patient calculated by the health department. The patient’s names were not included.”

Cecile Richards’s message to American women: ‘Don’t wait.’
From Washington Post: “When Cecile Richards stepped down as president of Planned Parenthood in 2018, many hoped, maybe even prayed, that she would run for office. That was to be expected after 12 years at the helm of the largest health provider for women in the country and the national stature that comes with the political battle scars earned in the process trying to protect a woman’s right to choose. Instead, Richards joined with two other high-powered women to form ‘Supermajority’ to harness the grass-roots power of women around the country that has awakened since the election of President Trump.”
“’I believe women will be the determining factor. They always are, but in 2020, women will determine the future of that election, and, frankly, the future of the country,’ Richards said. ‘Our goal is to spend this next 12 months aggregating 2 million women. Training them, organizing them, connecting them, and providing them the skills so that we can run the biggest voter mobilization of women-to-women outreach that we’ve ever seen in the United States of America.’”
