A Merry Can II

I have traveled from the highest expeditions to the lower extremeties

and not found many principalities suited to my likings

that could sustain me for more than a fortnightfull.

Ah,,,,,but a many a month’s been better

in passing through than staying over;

when the welcome wore and sudden chills would shudder my body

in what might be previewed as many years.

No animal in the impregnable jungle sucked her claws

deep enough around me to make me a member -

let alone an added picture to the faces of the family.

So I have put my clothing to other uses accordingly appropriate

to particular places that lay without a distant’s reach.

And though my trails be covered o’re well

they still all lay

behind
