The Brunson Files part #2
‘The 3 Little BIGS’.

UFC Fight Night Brasilia went down sat 24th sept,
as part of the main card we saw
Roy Big Country Nelson vs Antônio Big Foot Silva.
The referee in charge of the fight was Big John McCarthy.
Did the commission assign McCarthy so there would be three BIGS in the Octagon that night.? if not it was one hell of a coincidence !
Two weeks ago we collated our thoughts in the Brunson Files (please see link above)
our conclusion was that Fighters are roaming the streets like a pack of wild animals and the UFC needs to call time on this behaviour !

We once again draw your attention to the UFC’s Fighter Conduct Policy and that it has been torn to shreds with each new incident that further strengthens our claims
that UFC fighters are in some quarters not using the power of good decision making and behaving with zero regard to their responsibilities both to themselves and their fellow fighters and the Promotion they represent.
The policy is flawed because it only works in favour of the UFC.
(this in our opinion should work both ways because there ought to be a UFC Conduct Policy of Responsibility for fair and responsible treatment with arbitration for the fighters when they feel they have been ill treated and their rights have been disregarded by the Promotion.)

This is why the leading biggest sports entities secure the help of a Union for their athletes. In regard to the UFC the idea of a union has been dialled down to being considered destructive and just a tool to undermine the said promotion by using the means of striking and forcing the hand of the promotion as its chief means of mediation but that is not true.
Without checks or balances to ensure both the Promotion and the fighters are operating on an equal platform, fighters will always end up being at the short end of any dispute because the promotion will always have the upper hand as they are the ones who hold the cheque book and a fighters career at their mercy.

To challenge the promotions decisions results in consequences to bring the fighters back in line, but what happens when the promotion is out of line ?

Big Country Roy Nelson Ko’d Big Foot Silva towards the end of the second Round at 4min:10 sec.
His second win in his last 5 fights in a division that is stacked with monsters.
Big foot’s chin over the years seems to have become a weak spot but in reality there are only so many blows one can take before the brain has had enough of the constant head trauma.

Let’s remember in Strikeforce it was Big foot who claimed wins over Fedor Emelianenko, Andrei Arlovski and in the UFC over both Travis Browne and Alistair Overeem.
Big Foot is a legend in his own right and fans and friends love him.

What ever triggered what happened next there seems to be sections of the media calling for Big Country’s head.
If you keep reminding people of the fate of the last man who had a similar altercation like Big Country then you are indirectly drawing a parallel which would equate to at least a similar sentence to be taken into consideration .

Whilst Dana White has been silent in the past over Diaz and McGregor’s and the recent UFC 203 assault it would appear that Dana and sections of the media are determined to use this latest escalation by Big Country as an excuse to put all the incidents to rest by placing them on Big Roy’s head.

Dana White today has recently made his sentiments known by making it clear that Roy needs to be buried, had there been a union for fighters the thought might be that perhaps Roy needs to be protected.?

Big Country is a gentleman and so seeing him after a fight walk over to Big John McCarthy and rest his foot on Big John McCarthy’s ass was not in good character with Roy’s normal cool and laid back demeanour.

It seems that in these new times a little WWE and entertainment factor can go along way to boosting yourself on the radar of public popularity and the media circus but this incident was possibly not thought out too well. Another thought to consider is that perhaps Big Country’s actions were the result of Roy suffering trauma of his own threw out the duration of the fight.

When you consider also that these ‘after fight altercations’ have almost become credible when you see the likes of Verdum’s foot in a non fighters abdomen and the all powerful Conqueror McGregor hurling muscle drinks at the media and children at what became the end of a Press Conference you can not help but feel that these outrageous incidents are endorsed by the promotion when they stand back and do nothing.
I mean how serious can throwing bottles into a crowd be if your discipline hearing with the NAC is 10th of October but your next fight is already being announced for UFC 205
November 12th, 2016 ?
Surely one would wait for the results of the discipline before announcing your next fight?

We actually thought that we might see John Jones as MSG but with his impending hearing being October10th surely that couldn’t happen..yet McGregor is due at the same hearing and his fight is already confirmed..?
Whilst the cases between the these men are different (McGregor /Diaz/Jones) what remains the same is nobody has questioned the outcome of McGregor’s hearing in October ? Dana white said himself that they ( Diaz and McGregor) are probably looking at a suspension and a fine with a possible law suit and yet it was confirmed that McGregor will be headlining the main card for MSG ?

Big Country said he got taken by the moment -
“ I got taken by the moment, because it’s like I’m beating the sh*t out of somebody and you’re like, dude, enough is enough. And for me, it hurt my feelings. And I apologize to Big John, but I wouldn’t take it back. It just hurt me, that I’ve got to keep on hitting a guy that doesn’t need to be hit.”
Had Roy had proper representation by a union he would have been advised to be more repentant or have someone speak on his behalf as his explanation has not helped the matter particularly as his apology is in part but saying ‘i wouldn’t take it back (the kick) ‘ is the language that may kick him now in the butt as his career is now hanging in the balance.
Roy claims that his feelings were hurt but the first question that will be coming his way will be :
How was hurting McCarthy better than hurting Big Foot Silva that you just KO’D?

I think Big Country is seriously confused over his actions and perhaps needed an evaluation for trauma because these guys hit each other so hard at heavy weight it would not be so strange to believe that Roy’s strange action were a by product of his own trauma.

Stipe and The Reem proved that heavy weights faculties can be impaired after fights where neither fighter knew what happened during the course of their fights.
The Reem saw a tap and Stipe saw a kick that took him down and not a punch.
We think that this is more important than just imposing a fine or discipline on a fighter or in Roy’s case handing him his papers and exiling him from the premier promotion.

Though the CABMMA have taken up this case It would be appropriate for the UFC to get some sort of counselling for Nelson as i think a fighters mental health may be in question here and not just the actions of a fighter who clearly was acting out of character.

It is times like this Fighters really do need a union and someone to mediate them through these dark waters..because as far as Dana is concerned without even considering Big Country’s well being..his answer is that -ROY needs to be buried..
but not McGregor !
All we need ask now is does the burial come with a flower option and an open casket or just a brown sack in an unmarked grave never to be mentioned again.
And this is how we treat our own !?
