UFC on Fox 23 Shevchenko vs Peña part#2
Some fighters are overrated, some underrated but none more underestimated than Juliana Peña. Whatever has kept her almost as the underdog in many of the mma analysts’ minds is a bewilderment even to me today. I can not say she has not captured the minds of the mma media, or that she lacks exposure as she is an accomplished commentary host for Combate America, however when it comes to her fighting resume I sit and cringe for the most part because the way she has been assessed by the pundits has no merit and is not based on FACTS !
The MMA Beat: Episode 135
(27min 22 seconds into the show) Jeff Wagenheim of the Washington post believes that Ronda Rousey would have been suited with someone like Peña, who in his opinion is not a top level striker and more of a grappler.
“unless they put her in there with a grappler
unless they put her in there with like Julianna Peña..(a) real good grappler who’s not a top level striker at least not at this point in her game”
MMA H.E.A.T. Podcast #100! (LIVE!) Nunes TKOs Rousey, Garbrandt Dethrones Cruz At UFC 207
These are the types of typical comments that have been made about Julianna Peña on more than one occasion and not just by the two examples that I have chosen to highlight.Everyone is entitled to their opinion and so i will present her resume and ask you to consider Julianna based on what she has done inside the Octagon and not whether or not she is a proficient striker or has what it takes to beat Amanda.
I would like to remind everyone that Cat Zingano murdered Amanda Nunes and yet Zingano (who we love a lot) was stopped in her tracks by Julianna. The notion that neither Julianna or Shevchenko have what it takes to beat Amanda Nunes is certainly not based on facts since Julianna will equal Amanda Nunes’ winning streak if she beats Shevchenko this weekend. Did I also mention that she remains UNDEFEATED IN THE UFC?
STRANGER THINGS, Julianna decommissions Fighters !
Whilst most of the preliminary battles on a TUF card are classified as Pro Exhibition fights and do not affect the fighters MMA resume a fight is a fight and worthy of note if for nothing else but to measure the performance of a fighter. (let’s face it you are only as good as your last fight.)
Julianna decommissions fighters and has made a pattern of doing so since beating off her rivals at TUF18. If Julianna doesn’t break you, she certainly removes the winning streak out of you and don’t take my word for it just check the facts for yourself.
1.Jessica Rakoczy after losing to Pena TUF 18 finale she lost to Valerie Letourneau and has never been seen any more since April 2015.(decommissioned)
2.Milana Dudieva has not won since losing to Peña
UFC Fight Night 63 — Mendes vs. Lamas
Apr / 04 / 2015
3.Shayna Baszler she beat on day 1 of the quarter-finals (June 6th 2013) and she has never picked up a win since and has since changed sport. (decommissioned)
Whilst I am aware that before the TUF house she was coming into it on a loss to Alexis Davis i really believe Peña decommissioned her especially after she made a huge statement that she is the Queen of Spades and how dare anyone think that they should even be allowed to stand in the Octagon with her.(a little WWE but we got the point)
After Peña Loss -Shayna went on to lose to Bethe Correia in the 2nd round of their fight at exactly 1min 56seconds, she then went on to lose to Amanda Nunes in the 1st round at exactly 1min and 56 seconds ! Strange things happen to people after they lose to Peña.
4.Jessica Eye UFC 192 — Cormier vs. Gustafsson Oct / 03 / 2015
Peña not only out boxed the better striker but Jessica has not been able to find her winning form since fighting Peña and has taken a year off. I absolutely Love Jessica’s hand speed and movement, Ronda Rousey could learn a lot from her.I have never seen such a more naturally gifted striker but once again after Peña puts you down it is a long road to get back that winning form.
5. Gina Mazany after losing to Peña in the eliminations of TUF 18 she never fought again for 3 years!
However she has managed to keep a 4–0 record that spans all of 8 years !(because none of the TUF fights count as wins or losses unless it is the finale)
Peña’s only two losses were to:
Sarah Moras April 2012
DeAnna Bennett Feb 2013
She avenged her loss to Sarah Moras on the TUF 18 show ( though it will not feature as apart of her MMA record) on the 2nd July 2013 by submission in the 2nd round.
Peña has out boxed the boxer and out grappled the grappler and her Jiu Jitsu has only gotten better (look out Amanda). The woman born under the star sign of Leo is coming with a Roar of her own and she is desperate and hungry for that title shot. There is a reason why people do not call out Julianna Peña but if and when you do …. BE-CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR!
