Bonnie: Thank you for writing this — it is such a genuine perspective on travel that is rarely discussed. In the travel community, it sometimes feels taboo to even mention any negativity (or lack of extreme positivity) surrounding travel, or if any negativity is mentioned, it is usually in the form of “oh I had to sit on a bus for 12 hours overnight and then walk around with a 30 lb backpack and then stay in a hostel room with 12 other people, so as you can see I am really not privileged at all and travel isn’t as glorious as it’s made out to be.” Thank you for focusing on the locals’ perspectives and the impact they feel rather than the impact we feel. This was a very refreshing read.
