Changing The Way We Think: Autism Spectrum Disorder

What a wonderful education you are providing for those who know little about autism, Becca! This was very insightful!

My brother was diagnosed with being on the spectrum after many years of people wondering what’s “wrong with him”. He was so relieved when he was told that most of his “problems” are just part of him and cannot and should not be changed. This is how he is, and this is how he always will be. However all the doctors and other staff specifically refused to call him “autistic”, instead they told him he was simply “on the spectrum”. It was very hard for my brother when he was younger he didn’t know how to communicate with his teacher in school, or his teacher would have difficulty understanding him. We had to move him from one school to the next just to ensure that he would be where he has the help that he needed. I hope we can start a movement for all the children with autism to find a school or program to help the reach their full potential or to help them embrace and share their talents with the world.

Thankful for your blog, it has provided me with very interesting information and good points. You’re very inspirational! (Also I apologize for my English, it is not my first language).
