INTERNATIONAL MENTAL HEALTH DAY

October 10 is International Mental Health Day, and this year the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) has decided to make “suicide prevention” the main theme of World Mental Health Day. Every 40 seconds, someone loses their life to suicide. In addition to suicide, one in four people in the world will be affected by some sort of mental disorder at some point in their lives. And, if those facts aren’t enough, here’s one more: depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide.
In other words, there are a lot of people walking around with invisible wounds, hurting with pain you and I may not ever know. Perhaps you are one of them. Either way, raising awareness of mental health issues is more important than ever before. We are a planet that needs to get well again. We need to help each other.
Of course, from a spiritual point of view, the question is: how do we do this? What is our responsibility in this growing epidemic?
Ho’oponopono, the ancient Hawaiian art for problem-solving tells us that we are 100% responsible for everything that shows up in our lives. Please do not confuse responsibility with guilt. We are not guilty for the challenges in our lives or other people’s lives, simply responsible. You might feel overwhelmed when you read this. But, don’t. The good news is that if it is inside of us, we have the power to change it. Just memories replaying in our subconscious mind.
This is why my world peace campaign was born. I believe we must begin by remembering that Peace Within is World Peace, which is our call to help others. It is about time we commit ourselves to bring more inner peace into our own lives. And, of course, I can think of no better place to start than with love. Love is the greatest healer, and it comes in so many shapes and forms, starting by giving those around us (and ourselves) the freedom to be in pain and to heal, and to realize our true Divinity.
Just as important, we need to take responsibility for our own happiness, which is a path that is most powerful when we live at what I define as Zero Frequency.®
To live at Zero Frequency® is to live in Present Moment awareness, a state in which there is no fear and anxiety, and where we are not burdened with the old tapes that limit our growth and wreak havoc on our mental health. We will return to Zero in many ways, but we can start by taking personal responsibility for our consciousness, allowing ourselves to be ourselves again (loving, caring), by letting go and practicing gratitude and peace. Returning to Zero is how we will believe in ourselves, realize our power to turn things around, and rid ourselves of the anxiety and fear that leads to mental distress and disease. It is how we will bring stillness, happiness and peace to our hearts.
Being your-self, you will allow others to be them-selves. This is how we will heal and help others to heal.
