Excuses Suck and Whiners Never Win

You know you have heard them, over and over and maybe you have even been guilty of saying them yourself from time to time, excuses. For me one of my top 5 most disliked human characteristics is what seems to be an inability to take responsibility for one’s actions. I can speak on this because at one time in my life I had an excuse for everything that was going wrong in my life and business. Things like “the economy is soft”, “that prospect is not closable” and so on. It’s all a load of bull. Bottom line, once I analyzed my situation, I realized that virtually every bad thing in my life could be directly tied to a decision I had made somewhere along the way. Many times it was a decision of inaction as opposed to one of massive action. Making excuses or whining about a situation instead of taking action will never help you and no one actually cares about excuses. Customers expect a result, an employer expects progress, what they don’t expect is to hear why this is not possible and why a situation is more important than an expectation. If you really want to be successful, whatever your definition of success is then you will have to stop making excuses, take responsibility for your actions and the love of Pete QUIT WHINING.

Remember that if you’re serious about change, it is not an overnight project. It takes you making a decision to change, serious commitment, and goal setting and milestone achievement. More than anything though change takes massive conscious action.

Things you can do right now to make changes:

1. Ask yourself every time something is not right, How did I get here and what needs to change. (It is very important to own your situation and not to look at others as the cause)

2. Always be honest with yourself even if not with others.

3. Make decisions and then stand behind them.

4. Make sure you have timelines and milestones for all your goals.

5. Hold yourself accountable for those goals, deadlines and milestones.

6. Believe you can do it. If you don’t believe, it just won’t happen.

7. Use a journal of some sort to track yourself daily. BE HONEST.

8. Stop whining and complaining. Negativity is the death of productivity.

9. Recognize and remove yourself from others that are negative, excuse makers and whiners.

I only wish you the very best success but if you are an excuse maker or whiner your road will never get any easier. If you know someone that is an excuse maker or whiner, be a real friend and point it out. Remove yourself from the environment until they change and be firm, only spend time with those who are positive influences and not negative peddlers. Best wishes on your path to your defined success.
