Apple designs some amazing computers, but with that amazing design comes limited hard drive space. The technology company likes to limit the sizes of hard drives that you are allowed with you laptop so that you have to upgrade from time to time. You can always buy a new hard drive, but you practically have to rip the computer apart in order to install it. That effort voids your warranty and why would you want to do that with the amount of money you shell out for the computer in the first place?

Once you’ve decided that taking it apart is not going to work, then it’s time to find a new option for extra storage. This could be expensive Cloud storage from many different companies or an external hard drive you have to lug around. One of my new favorite options is the iSlice microSD card adapter by 8Mobility.

iSlice is simply an adapter that allows you to expand your hard drive space up to 128GB with a microSD card (not included). This adapter slides into the SD card slot on a MacBook Pro and fits seamlessly. This option is great because it not only solves the storage problem, but it is also lightweight and durable. iSlice is nearly invisible once installed because it sits flush with the MacBook Pro body and is the same color to match it. It’s easily removable with simply your fingernail.

iSlice does work with any microSD, SDHC, and SDXC cards depending on what type of microSD media is supported by your MacBook. One very nice perk to this method of storage is that you can use it with Time Machine.

One word of warning — there are various sizes of the adapters. Make sure you get the correct one when ordering. You can purchase them for the MacBook Pro 15″ or 13″ and different model years have different requirements for the adapter. If you happen to slip the adapter into a SD card slot that it isn’t designed for, you may not get it out without having to tear your computer apart, which is what you were trying to avoid in the first place.
