TYLT RIBBN Car Charger Review:

If you’re like me, you will find yourself being a fan of different companies. Maybe it is because of the amazing products they make or because of the great people you’ve had the opportunity to work with. Either way, TYLT has become one of those companies that when I have the chance to review something of theirs, I jump at it. They make some of the most functional, well-designed products around and I’ve enjoyed every product that I’ve been able to test out from TYLT.

I was recently asked to review their RIBBN car charger. This is a great product for me because I spend a lot of time traveling back and forth to Louisville, KY, which is almost two hours from my home. Because of this, I use my iPhone as my GPS and having a good option to keep my iPhone 6 Plus charged is a must.

So, what makes the TYLT RIBBN charger different then the average car charger?

Well, first off it’s not two pieces. Most car chargers do not include a cable for your device. As a result, you end up with two pieces to keep track of. TYLT made this little guy all one piece, which is both smart and efficient.

Secondly, they used a flat ribbon cable instead of the standard tube-type cable that is known for getting tangled and just being a hassle. The flat cable does not get tangled and is much easier to manage in a vehicle, it has an enhanced 4.8 Amp circuit, which allows me to charge two devices at once. During my drive, I can top off both my iPhone and iPad without needing a different cable. Another reason I like RIBBN is because it’s made from soft rubber with bright vibrant color choices — Red, Green, Blue, and Black.

Measuring three feet, I have plenty of cable to reach my device throughout the cab of my truck without having to pull my phone out of the charging port. Because the flat ribbon is tangle-free, I have less aggravation while driving.

I’ve been using this cable daily for a week now and can say it’s been a better experience than using a charger and detachable cable that gets tangled. Just because I’m a super fan of TYLT, does not mean I’m not going to find a few things they can improve on for the next generation of RIBBN cables.

First of all, I would love to have some sort of attachment that I can use to wrap up the cable when it’s not in use. Even though it’s a non-tangle cable, it would still be nice to have that option.

Also, I love having a second USB port for charging two devices at once, but in other styles of chargers they have some sort of soft LED indicator light inside the port. This can really help out in the dark so you don’t fumble around trying to plug in a cable. This could also serve as a power indicator light so that you know power is getting to the charger. These ideas are by no means ‘deal breakers,’ but rather suggestions for further product improvement.

The TYLT RIBBN car charger is made with two options — you can purchase it in Micro USB or Lightning depending on your device needs. I find it to be a great adapter for any vehicle and highly recommend it for anyone with a car and a smart phone.

It retails for RIBBN micro-USB: $39.99 RIBBN Lightning: $49.99
