Cyberattacks have already started flowing in numbers after May 12th. WannaCry and Petya are more popular now than Christopher Nolan’s movie. With all that said, ROPEMAKER is another new face that is threatening email applications across the world.

While most people assume that email is quite safe once it is delivered safe, there are other breaches that are becoming possible after ROPEMAKER’s discovery. Using this exploit hackers can change the content inside a mailer or change the url in the mailer, even after it is being delivered. On the high note all this can be done without direct access to the mailbox.

What is a ROPEMAKER?

ROPEMAKER is a exploit that exits either in the application level or with the web technologies. During the earlier stages of emails, they were mostly composed of texts but after development in email vectors, with more attractive and dynamic emails.

The emails can be remotely accessed and the content can be changed accordingly by the hackers, though this exploit is still under confusion that whether this is an application vulnerability or an exploit through internet and web technologies, this is definitely going to give some opportunity to hackers to breach into networks anytime.

Remedy

Keep your applications always updated.
