There are several factors of UBI that cannot be understated.
- Increased entrepreneurship. We know new businesses are the real job engine of our economy. UBI would unleash tons of competition in what has amounted in many fields to be monopolistic and uncompetitive. Universal health care creates an exponential benefit when coupled with UBI.
- Health. UBI doesn’t work nearly as well without universal health care. However, with it, people can focus on wellness, everything from choosing less stressful work to making better food choices.
- Automation. With AI and various robotics, everything from truck driving and self-driving to surgery, doctors in general, lawyers, pilots and a host of other professions are likely to be phased out in as few as 10 years (lookin’ at you, truck drivers. The automated driving systems for big rigs that can retrofit most modern rigs is on the road now being beta tested and costs LESS than a drivers’ salary for a year. With ROI UNDER a year, bet trucking goes automated in a HURRY.). By having UBI in place, people can know their basic needs are met whether the economy has room for their labor…or not.
- Life mobility. We have many urban issues regarding housing and all the logistical issues of bringing goods and services to a very concentrated populace in urban centers. With UBI and decentralized services, people can live where they prefer rather than being forced to live in or near urban centers for work. The upside is that it will encourage competition for tenancy, either rent or owning, with small and smaller towns likely being the biggest winner.
