How many times is it possible to injure the opposition in a game of Red Card?

--

I am on a quest to find the human limit of how many times you can injure the other team in Red Card, the greatest football beat ‘em up of all time. Released in 2002 on Nintendo GameCube / Xbox / PlayStation 2, the game follows most of the laws of football, but allows heavy tackles and special moves.

In the standard game the boost meter is required for special moves, such as shots, sprints and tackles. In order to cause an injury you need to do an ‘aggressive tackle’ whilst using up some of your boost. As part of this challenge I’m using a cheat code for infinite boost which really dials up the intensity somewhat and increases the maximum number of injuries that is possible.

Alongside this I recently discovered no culling codes that enable this classic game to be played in widescreen format; this gives new possibilities for off-the-ball dropkicks and superkicks to really channel your inner Shawn Michaels.

The Red Card injury challenge:

  • Inflict as many injuries as possible on your opponent (excluding extra time)
  • Cheats: infinite boost for Home team
  • Emulator settings: widescreen hack with no culling enabled (players and supporters)
  • Any teams and other game options

See my other post for a tutorial on how to apply the widescreen hack and no culling codes for the GameCube version in the Dolphin emulator: https://medium.com/@MadDog1642/how-to-play-redcard-in-widescreen-using-the-dolphin-emulator-9328cdd3e787.

I’ve shared my best scores below and will update this article if I beat them. Have a go yourself and let me know in the comments how you get on!

6-minute game: 66 injuries (11.0 per minute)
10-minute game: 92 injuries (9.2 per minute)
