2015.

This year I am making a deliberate effort to cultivate a reading habit. I love to read, but a major weakness of mine is that I get easily distracted. These distractions have a wide range, but all inhibit my ability to focus on what is most important to me. I am, in a way, using the discipline and enjoyment of reading 50 books in one year as a path to living deliberately.

With my recent introduction to minimalism, I am learning how to live with purpose and with focus. I am decluttering my life, literally and mentally, to focus on those aspects of life that radiate the most meaning. And I want reading to be a deliberate part of my life.

Starting today, I will be discussing each book I read so I can have a record of my thoughts on the 50 books I choose to read this year. Writing about these books will help articulate my thoughts and creatively interact with the author’s intent and purpose. 50 is an arbitrary number, and I am merely using it as an intention to read more than I ever have. It matters that I do something I enjoy and begin to think deeply about the ideas in the stories that I will be entering into.

I hope to grow as a writer, a thinker, and as a person as I go on this journey through literature.
