Digital Detox Challenge
What is one of the first things you do when you wake up in the morning and the last thing you do before bed? Is it gratitude for being alive one more day? Is it taking a moment to set your daily intention and reflect on the day? If so go you, you self- controlled rockstar. If one of the first and last things you do is grab your iPhone- welcome to the club. You are not alone, welcome to iPhones anonymous.
We scroll through mind numbing content on FaceBook, Instagram, Snapchat and a slew of other stalking devices at our fingertips. We check our emails and texts like we are the most important person in the world. I am all for using social media for self-expression and marketing for business, and I am all for staying connected to our peoples, what I am not all for is using it as supplement to fulfill a basic human need.
So why do we do it? Why do we get lost for hours in the lives of others, even at times fully aware of our robotic behavior yet we keep on scrolling? Here is why: There is something missing in our lives that we seek to fill through our phones. Now the question is, what is it? Is it deep connection to ourselves? To others? Validation of our worth? I am committed to discovering this and I invite you to do the same.
Here is how this will work: today we begin a week long digital detox - 30 minutes before bed and 30 minutes upon waking (minus turning off our alarms) no technology allowed! Instead, we will take the time to be with ourselves. Just think of how many books we could read, love we could make, self- awareness we could cultivate in that time!
When we feel ourselves reaching for our phones, we will ask ourselves “what is the real reason I am craving my phone? What is the basic human need I am trying to fill?” Avoiding being with our feelings? Seeking see how others have received our work? Connecting with someone else, anyone but ourselves?
Once the week is over and we have figured out what it is we are truly seeking, we will join together to learn how to give it to ourselves. Boom- attachment gone! Feel free to message me throughout the week with aha moments or for help! I am here for you, together we can do this!
