An Optimistic outlook for the future
Today we want to talk about Optimism, and we don’t just mean having a positive outlook on things, we’re talking literally, the layer 2 scaling solution: Optimism.
But let’s start with a little optimism anyways, everybody likes good news. Since the beginning of 2023, the crypto market cap has increased over 30 percent and the TVL in DeFi by over 25 percent, showing renewed optimism in the space. In this small time frame, Optimism has been popping off, with TVL almost doubling and daily volume increased ten fold, so we figured you birds may want an easy way to cross-chain swap and get over to Optimism to have some fun.
With that said, we’re incredibly excited to let you all know that Magpie will be integrating Optimism into the Magpie app!

Optimism is an “Optimistic Rollup” of Ethereum and what that means is that they batch, or “rollup,” transactions off-chain & send them back to Ethereum mainnet once computed. This spreads gas fees & transaction time between 1000s of transactions. Optimism is designed to work with Ethereum from the ground up, so if an app works on Ethereum, it’ll work on Optimism at much less cost, making it perfect to build a nest on.
How cheep, sorry, cheap is it? To put it simply, very cheap. In fact, in just a year, users have saved over $1b in gas fees when compared to having done them on Ethereum mainnet, with the average transaction at the time of writing being 42x cheep cheeper…apologies again (we’re birds, can’t help it) cheaper than Ethereum.
