Next Level UX Step-by-Step

It’s a wonderful day to be a bird, ya’ll. Magpie has updated the user interface of the Magpie dApp so everybirdy out there can have the best user experience available!

The Magpie Mafia is going strong and there are lots of new fledglings in the flock so we’re dropping off this article right to your nest so you can see how incredibly easy and streamlined cross-chain swapping with Magpie is. If you’re more interested in the mechanics behind the swaps, check out our other blog posts on our liquidity aggregation, unique order aggregator that swaps through multiple DEXs and protocols to find you the best price available, and more!

To begin, we’ll assume you’ve connected your wallet to the Magpie dApp in the upper right hand corner, so now it’s time we walk you through how to complete a cross-chain swap. It’s pretty simple, with no need to visit multiple DEXs or bridges, you simply select your tokens & chains, approve, and then swap! Let’s get started!

👉 Step 1: Selecting your Assets & Chains

Now that you’re connected, you’ll see the default connected interface, which looks like:

Now you’ve just got to decide which tokens you’d like to swap and on which blockchain you want to swap from and to. To make things more straightforward to explain, we’ll be swapping LINK on Arbitrum for AAVE on Optimism. Both of these tokens are non gas tokens and generally ones that are not supported on most bridging protocols, as most bridges are limited to native gas tokens, stablecoins, and the protocols token.

Keep in mind, you can select ANY token and ANY chain you’d like, and we’re just using these as an example.

First you’ll want to click on the button for Network & Asset selection below where it says “From.”

Now we’ll select both the network we’re swapping From and which asset we’re swapping. For this example, we’ll select Arbitrum under “Select a Network” for our starting network and then type in the token we’re swapping LINK, and select it.

Once selected, the app will return to the default connected screen where we will now click on the button for Network & Asset selection below “To” and select Optimism as our destination chain and then type in the token we are swapping FOR — AAVE.

If you want to know a bit about what’s going on behind the scenes, you can read up on that here, but we’ll provide a brief explanation.

The Magpie aggregator collects on-chain liquidity information from all of the supported liquidity pools we aggregate; any time a liquidity event occurs, such as an add, remove liquidity, or swap, Magpie is updated on every single change, price included. This means that Magpie calculates how much you’ll get with how much you’re paying without the need to wait for a response from the chain contracts, resulting in a faster response time when compared to pretty much anyone else.

👉 Step 2

Click the ‘Approve Token’ button and your wallet app will prompt you to give the Magpie app permission to use the selected token. You can choose to approve the exact amount for the swap you’re going to initiate.

This one is pretty simple, here you’re giving Magpie permission to make a swap using your tokens.

Keep in mind, Magpie is non-custodial, so we’re never in custody of your tokens, and they remain in your control. This is important in DeFi, especially when dealing with bridges, and is another layer of added protection in keeping your assets as safe as possible. You don’t have to worry about leaving your funds in someone else’s wallet or being restricted from swapping when and where you want to.

👉 Step 3

Once the token spend is approved, the button will now say “Swap Now” and you can click it to start the swap process. As the process is non-custodial, your assets remain in your control and not ours, increasing the security of the transaction and giving you more control over your assets.

Your wallet will once again prompt you to confirm the transaction, but this time rather than token approval, it will provide you with estimated Gas, Bridge, and/or Relayer fees that are required for the swap, all-in-one. Magpie is currently not charging any fees on top of what is required to do the swap.

This step is where most of the magic happens, especially when going cross-chain. It combines many of our services in order to find the best price, the best route, and to send the swap signals cross-chain.

Magpie finds you the best price by aggregating tons of liquidity sources and swapping through essentially ANY token, not just stablecoin or native-gas intermediaries, as well as pulling liquidity from as many sources as necessary in order to find you the best price. Magpie may pull liquidity from 8 different DEXs in order to fulfill your order at the most accurate price, but all in one transaction and the gas fee of just one normal swap.

It doesn’t really get better than using Magpie, try it for yourself today:
