An Alumni Service Award from my alma mater — SP Jain Institute of Management & Research
Last month, I was fortunate to have received an Alumni Service Award for the year 2021 from my alma mater business school — SPJIMR based in Mumbai, India. This award is to recognise and celebrate alumni for excellence in volunteering for SPJIMR and the alumni community.
I am humbled by the award and I sincerely hope that I can strive to live up to the expectations in the future.
Since I have been awarded in the Alumni Service category, I just wanted to elucidate on my thoughts on these two words : ‘Alumni’ & ‘Service’.
First, what does it been to be an alumnus? I look at an alumnus as a strong anchoring bridge between the educational institute — SPJIMR in this case and a world which is changing dynamically on a daily real time basis. An alumnus has to make herself or himself relevant to the challenges put forth both in personal and professional lives. While still adhering to the values learnt at the institute. And perhaps, giving back.
Coming to Service, I am happy to note that SPJIMR has looked at this important aspect of our daily lives. And of course, during the past two years, the world has turned upside down because of the pandemic.
