One of the growing trends in India is online shopping. With an increasing number of E-commerce portals are vying to grab a market share, and in this endeavor they are attracting (or luring?) consumers who are inclined to online shopping for heavy discounts and convenience. E-commerce is still in its growing phase in India and so the portals are coming up with innovative ways to get customers’ attention.

Error-prone Commerce

Just like any other business, E-commerce companies are also prone to errors. Imagine you ordered an expensive watch to surprise your husband on his birthday and you receive a fake one instead. How will you deal with such a situation? Defective products, late delivery, theft are some of the common issues that consumers face with the E-commerce companies. However, to your surprise there are only a few people who take appropriate steps against the responsible E-commerce companies.

According to a report by Medianama.com on December 2014, only 9 fraud complaints have been received by the Indian Government against E-commerce firms in India in the last two years. Taking into consideration the number of unhappy consumers who expressed their frustration on the social networking sites, 9 complaints is a astonishingly less number. This implies that the E-commerce companies are hiding the problems to prevent further legal hassles.

Taking Appropriate Action

While many people tend to ignore the issue completely and deal with the loss, it is advisable to take action against the company that is responsible for such goof up. However, many of us are not aware of the procedure to follow to file a complaint.

Consumer complaints against an E-commerce company have to be filed at the place where the company has its main office or branch. In case this is not possible, the complaints need to be filed at the place where the cause of action took place.

In addition to this, there are several other steps that you can take to protect yourself against online frauds and delays. It is advisable to shop from secured sites that use encryption technology to transfer the information. Read the terms and conditions, privacy policies and save the copies of your order for future reference. Check the address of the website and don’t fall prey to phishing messages which may seem lucrative, but intends to dupe you of your hard-earned money in the future. Use a password that is unique and keep it private. In this way, you will be able to take care of all the loose ends.
