Never Lego Off Your Dreams — 7-year-old Brooks took the Lego Factory in Denmark by Storm

Brooks is only seven-years-old but he’s able to keep everyone’s spirits up just by being around him. During his long stay in the hospital, he always helped other patients focus on positive things. A big part of what helped him keep his own spirits up was his unconditional love of Legos. This young boy has an affinity for all things brick, which is what led him to watch a documentary aptly named The Lego Brickumentary. The film shows the original Lego factory in Denmark that brings to life all things Lego, and naturally Brooks was completely sold. So when asked where he wanted to go for his wish, Brooks did not even need a second to think about it. When volunteers arrived at his house to reveal his wish, Brooks could not contain his excitement. One volunteer noted, “He actually had to go to his couch and lay down, because he couldn’t handle how happy he was.”

Brooks is a kid with energy unlike any other, and he was definitely ready to take Denmark by storm. The Lego factory that was once just an image on a Netflix screen was now live right in front of him. Brooks and his family were greeted by their 65-year-old guide who Brooks quickly became best friends with. His Mom remarked, “he was so happy he finally found someone he could talk Legos with.” The excitement continued when Brooks got his “driver’s license” to drive the Lego cars with the other kids. Unlike most seven-year-olds, “he really enjoyed how civilized the driving school was compared to San Diego, because someone was regulating the traffic on the track. He liked that so much better than how crazy San Diego LEGOLAND was.” For Mom, seeing the life-sized version of the Lego airport, which she watched her son build the model version of while he was in the hospital was incredibly touching. “After a period of time with so many sad tears, we now had the opportunity shed so many happy tears,” she noted.

Brooks was so happy to make friends with kids from all over the world, and to explore a country he had never been to before. He went to Denmark for Legos but absorbed much more than that. He learned about the culture and created memories for a lifetime. At the end of his trip, he added to his snow globe collection with a snow globe of a mermaid because “it promotes love and health.” Brooks still can’t get enough of his trip, and his house is now filled with more Legos than he ever imagined. “Things like your foundation are what kept us with hope and a goal in mind,” said Brooks’ Mom.
