What did you think you wanted to be when you were in HS?
When I was in high school I had no idea what I wanted to be. Even today, it is less about what job I am doing and more about how I am doing it. I want to bring all my awesomeness to whatever I do and never lose enthusiasm.
What did you study in college and what was your first job?
I am a proud bachelor of fine arts as well as a master of science. This means I really enjoy coming up with crazy/creative ideas and then figuring out how to make them.
What did you do in your previous life, prior to this startup journey?
In my previous life I was very focused on building creative communities like artist collectives and hackers spaces as well as working to inspire young girls to be excited about #STEM. Also themselves. Girl power ya’ll. Girl power all day long.
What inspired you to go on the Luma Legacy journey?
I have moved 20 times in less than a decade. When my co-founder Karol approached me with the idea of building Luma Legacy, I remember looking down at a big box full of photos and mementos that I have dragged with me on every single one of my moves and thinking- I can’t remember the last time I printed a photo to add to that box. It’s time to come up with a better solution. Bonus points if it’s not heavy to lug up and down the stairs.
What has been your biggest challenge growing your company?
Pitching a product that embraces sentimentality can be a bit of a tough sell for risk adverse investors. We get it. It may not get easier to sell, so we just have to get better at selling it.
What has been your biggest win?
Other than being accepted into two fantastic hardware accelerator programs which have helped me learn and grow as person and entrepreneur, I would have to say my biggest win is having a co-founder that I work well with who also shares my love of Beyonce.
When you’re not working on your company, how do you spend your time?
Hiking with my dog and exploring the left coast- I’m new here.
Best place you’ve ever traveled to?
The Netherlands during tulip season. It was like walking through a living tapestry. They also have some game changing contemporary art.
How would your mother describe your personality?
I literally just sent her a text. She says: funny, open-minded, kind, hard working, animal loving, stick-to-it-iveness, loves camping and nature. Boom. Thanks mom. ❤
