Absolutely! In fact, I believe making an effort to empathize and at least in some measure accept those who are different is the only thing that will heal and reunite our divided nation of very diverse ideas.

I am a strong advocate of seeking respectful and empathetic dialogue with those who are most different from ourselves. Preaching to the choir is fine, but there isn’t as much that can be accomplished as there is when we talk to those who think differently.

Of course, the best success is achieved when all sides share the idea that finding common ground is good for all. But even unilateral efforts are better than none at all.
