Hello Summoners! Today we’re Taking a trip to discover the Perilous Journey, what it is, how it works, and the Pros and cons of this event.

First things first, “Mal, you’ve covered basic concepts of the game until this article, whats the deal?” As I share a love like most of you with DeFi Kingdoms, the great thing is that everyone has access to everything at the start of the game, so while The Perilous Journey is something likely for more vested players to engage in, its open for everyone so we should cover this as well!

What is the Perilous Journey?

As the world was Split ages before our heroes started returning to Serendale through the portal, a distant land unknown to the people at the time called Crystalvale has become a reality. A lone voyager has reached Serendale from this land, a call to arms to make discovery has begun! The Perilous Journey is the first call to arms quest our heroes will have the option to take part in! Our Heroes are sailing out in mass to find the safe route for the rest of Serenedale to be able to make this journey.

What does this mean?
Unfortunately Our heroes that have taken up this task will be in danger. Many great heroes will likely be lost on this adventure.

Why would I make this Journey if my heroes will be able to make the swap between Crystalvale and Serenedale afterwards with no burn mechanics?

With great risk comes reward, Heroes that Survive will live to tell the tale of this journey for ages. (we’ll cover actual rewards further on).

What is a burn mechanic?

Burning is the loss of assets in the Crypto community known as sending them to a wallet that does not have access to move assets. Burning is crucial to the economy of Cryptocurrencies and beneficial to the NFT community as well. By assets no longer being available it pushes remaining assets to rise in value.

A lright so lets get down to the numbers, the pros and cons, and if The Perilous Journey is for everyone.

The formula for Hero survival is:

survivalChance = 34 + level + rarity * (2 + rarity) + 2 * rank * (1 + rank) where

rarity = 0 for Common, 1 for Uncommon, 2 for Rare, 3 for Legendary, 4 for Mythic and

rank = 0 for Basic, 1 for Advanced, 2 for Elite, 3 for Exalted

This information can be found in the Docs at Defikingdoms.com

Basic heroes: Archer, Thief, Knight, Warrior, Priest, Wizard, Pirate, and Monk.

Advanced Heroes: Paladin, Dark Knight, Summoner, and Ninja.

Elite: Dragoon and Sage.

Exalted: Dreadknight

Using this calculation you can get a basic idea of if your heroes are likely to make it or bite the dust, or we can move on over to the Discord and go to #bot-commands thanks to MrZipper and use /PJ and input our hero ID’s to not only see our survival rates, but also see our rewards for succeeding or failing the journey as well!

after /PJ use tab to continue to the next command then enter start the command.
Elfi here has a 38% chance, not enough for one of my favorite heroes to make this journey for me!

Okay Mal, we have the numbers but what does this look like in action?

Glad you asked! Thanks to Mettez We actually have a small clip of some percentages based on what some of the more realistic chances of survival are.

“So what you’re saying is, if we send our newer heroes that aren’t super good Heroes, they’re probably NGMI *not gonna make it* why would I do that?”

Something to keep in mind is that while this is true, common basic heroes could very likely perish into a ball of fire, some of these benefits may outweigh the cons however, Let's take a look at these rewards.

Take to the seas!

Successfully making the Perilous Journey we’ll get:

A boost of +5 to any three stats chosen by their owner (not stackable)
Enough experience to fill their experience bar
A survival achievement that will unlock specific quests in the future
Access to a selection of land tournaments only accessible to Perilous Journey survivors
Entries into a raffle for 25 Crystalvale gen0 Heroes
An airdrop of CRYSTAL when Crystalvale launches

Raffle entries are determined by this formula:

entries = level + (2 * rarity) + (2 * rank) where

rarity = 0 for Common, 1 for Uncommon, 2 for Rare, 3 for Legendary, 4 for Mythic and

rank = 0 for Basic, 1 for Advanced, 2 for Elite, 3 for Exalted

Notice, This formula is the same as The formula for determining the survival chances for our heroes! This means Higher Survival chance also has higher rewards

Now for those heroes that don’t make it, what happens?

This is where things get interesting, As we have information on what we’ll get, what we don’t know is how difficult these new items will be to get into the future, which really puts speculation on the price of the items as well.

A payout in JEWEL Based on these tables
A selection of runes based on level
Enhancement stones and attunement crystals based on the stat array, rank, and rarity of the dead Heroes
Entries into a separate raffle for 25 Crystalvale gen0 Heroes

Rune Rewards are based strictly on hero level

Lastly, we have Enhancement stones and Attunement crystals, while these items are not in-game currently and don't know how rare these items will be in the future. What we do know is that if we have heroes that could be used to potentially for collecting these to give a stronger buffer to the heroes we plan on using for PVP in the future!

This table can be found in the white paper

“Okay, mal so how do I decide if this is the play for me?”

As far as your NFT’s and investments are concerned, you’re the only person that can make that decision! While the information is out, this quest is not mandatory, and after the Perilous Journey event is over, NFT’s will no longer be at risk of being burned.

With the achievement tag for heroes to keep in consideration, the quests for these heroes, the chance at the competitions at land as well, we also have the option to select 3 different stats to give a +5 stat increase to, in this event, even a common hero at level 15 will be on the same grounds as a rare hero, in terms of stats, that did not complete the Perilous Journey. While the rewards for failing don’t seem as lucrative in most prospects, I personally don’t feel that failing should be as rewarding as success.
