You’re focusing solely on technological innovations.

Putting people into cars and taking them somewhere in exchange for money is also a well known and established business, and none of the technology that Uber used in its early days was particularly advanced. It’s the way it was used that made it interesting to study. In fact, many of the most interesting disruptors aren’t based on inventing a new technology.

Thanks for reading! Hopefully it at least made the framework less buzzy and more applicable. “Disruptive innovation” has been so overused as a term in SV that the simplicity of what it tries to illustrate has been obscured and rendered almost meaningless. Clarifying how the framework is applied was part of my goal for this article.
