I’m a male feminist.

When I was in high school- I approached a teacher and asked why there wasn’t a female rugby team. I was scoffed at — but the question was serious. Why wasn’t there one? It was women played hockey and men played football.

I believed in equal rights before it was trendy to do so. FEMINISM means that and only that, the fight for equal rights, equal treatment, and equal representation, and people seem to skew feminism to mean that men’s “rights” are going to be eroded in the process and that it’ll somehow lead to men being dominated and oppressed by women in the long term.

This is one thing society gets wrong — there is actually no difference between men and women. There are obvious physical differences, but these are ultimately the result of the species’ need to reproduce, and really nothing more. If you look at say a thousand men, and a thousand women, the personality types range from one extreme to the other, in both sexes, and I can guarantee you’ll be able to match personality types of men and women, and in the end it’s an individual, regarless of sex, that makes a person and their abilities to fail, succeed, make a difference, play sports, play games, etc etc etc.

We need feminism because the reality is this society still has a long way to go before it becomes ingrained that men and women are people and there’s no point differentiating them when it comes to rights, representation, and opportunity. At the end it’s a waste, it’s divisive, and society suffers for it.
