The Night it Happened
Molly S. Hill

Wow what a horrible experience that must have been for you! You might have made a bad choice as a 16 year old by accpeting to go with him, but this was not your fault. This was an assault. Either party being drunk does not make it acceptable.

As a middle aged woman now, whenever I speak to youth I always remind them to always listen to their gut, their instinct, that inner voice when something doesn’t feel right…and yes, when we have a traumatic negative experience at a young age, unfortunately it not only has psychological consequences, but physical ones as well; it actually changes our natural brain DNA and as a result we make other bad choices because we no longer perceive dangerous or risky situations/people in the same way as someone who has not experienced such trauma, ergo the drinking, bad relationships, etc…(McGill University research)!

I believe that sharing and talking about the experience, as well as trying to help others in similar situations is an important part of the healing process.

Good luck to you and God bless.
