I Wonder What Our Cell Phones Are Doing to Us

I’m addicted to my phone. You probably are too. In fact, there is a good chance you’re reading this on your phone. If you’re not, did you know there is a Medium phone app? See? I just ruined whatever focus and productivity you thought you had left. But seriously, in 50 years, when we all have some collective and horrific psychological or neurological problem because we spent the majority of our days looking at screens, I wonder what we’ll think. I wonder how kids in the future will laugh at us for ever thinking that this was safe — that unlimited phone to eye contact would come without serious consequences.

I wonder if any of us will care. I wonder if we’ll just judge the next generation for being too damn narcissistic. I wonder if we’ll still think of these as the good ol’ days. I wonder if we’ll ever learn that perhaps its not generational but human nature and that the older generation will always have shit to say about younger people — partly out of jealousy, partly out of wisdom and partly because that’s just what older people do.

Hmmm, I wonder.

Well, back to staring at my phone.
