Running Mind Games
Experienced by every runner
I shouldn’t be up right now.
My legs are too tired from yesterday.
Let’s just check Facebook real quick.
I need a coffee. Make that two.
My shoes are still wet.
The dog needs to go out.
I need to finish my morning routine.
I cannot do 14 miles today.
It’s still dark out.
I have so much to do today.
It’s already 80 degrees out.
I only have an hour.

I’m going stretch for a bit.
One shoe laced.
Music on.
Both shoes laced.
I feel pretty good.
Let’s see how the first mile goes.
I’m so glad I got out this morning!
That was an awesome run!
Let’s do it again tomorrow!
Repeat cycle
Before you even step out the door, your mind will stream to you countless mind games to why you shouldn’t be running. Block out the pain. Block out the tiredness you feel. Block out everything else going on.
And just run.
You’ll be glad you did.
