Why did my feed become the KSM Channel?

I’m not blaming the writer who’s initials are KSM, unless she is like the Gandalf of SEO or something. I just want to get that out of the way. Something happened with the Medium feed algorithm that has turned my home feed into a deluge of her writing.

Not all of the writing appearing in my feed is recent. I notice that a lot goes back to June. Some is from February. It’s not all stories — there are a lot of KSM’s comments/responses to other stories or comments/responses. The one thing they have in common is that they were all recommended by someone I follow.

Here is a quick catalog of what my feed looks like.

  • First three stories — comments I made today to other people’s stories or comments.
  • 7 non-KSM stories/articles
  • 4 comments by KSM
  • 2 stories by KSM
  • 1 comment by KSM
  • 1 story by KSM
  • 4 comments by KSM
  • 2 stories by KSM
  • 5 comments by KSM
  • 1 story by KSM
  • 4 comments by KSM
  • 1 story by KSM
  • 7 comments by KSM
  • 1 story by KSM
  • 1 comment by KSM
  • 2 stories by KSM
  • 4 comments by KSM
  • 1 story by KSM
  • Finally, a comment by someone I follow.

Feed goes back to normal (with older stories I’ve already seen).

As I said, I’m not blaming KSM. She seems to be a fine writer, maybe one that I would follow if Medium wasn’t shoving her writing in my face. I’m just curious as to how I should fix this. Or should I wait for Medium to fix itself? Why is my feed so heavily weighted towards conversations (comments), something I noticed just before this inundation of KSM.
