No one knows for certain how much impact they have on other people.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

A few months ago I read a book that really changed my life, if you couldn’t tell, its called Thirteen reasons Why. Don’t worry its not your typical romance book that you’d find on the shelf just sadly waiting for someone to pick it up and buy it, no. It’s actually the opposite of that. This book talks about a very serious topic that our society deals a lot with now a day, and that is SUICIDE. The word itself is depressing, I know.

Here’s a quick summary so you know what I’m talking about, it starts off with a boy called Clay Jensen that returns home from school and finds a box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside the box he discovers that there are thirteen cassette tapes {yes!, cassette tapes, don’t be scared} reordered by a girl named Hannah Baker, his classmate and crush, which committed suicide two weeks earlier. On each tape, Hannah explains that who and why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens to each tape he’ll find out how he made the list.

Think before you act, because you never know how what you do will affect someone else.

Now let me tell you why this book changed my life. As your reading you get sucked into Clay’s emotions as he’s listening to the tapes and you feel like your part of the story and what’s going on. It really made me realize how big of an impact I have on people’s life when I didn’t even realize it. For example, I may be joking around with one of my friends and they laugh because I told a joke but really when I leave they may have thought that was an offensive thing to say. No one knows what’s going on in another person’s head. Now I’m not saying you shouldn’t joke around with your friends but just ask yourself, is this appropriate to say. And sometimes its not even what you say it can also be your actions and what you do.

Overall this book was so powerful and it’s been approximately 4 months and this book has still stood to be my favorite book yet, and I have read a lot of books! It really changed how I look at the world and how I treat people. I recommend this book to every one of all ages; I promise it will really make a difference in your life, if it doesn’t well i don’t know what to tell you… anyways thank you for reading and i hope you enjoyed. Stay rad and care for your actions pleassee!!
