“Politics” is not of chief importance
I will never understand how this pseudo functional garbage makes it to the top of Medium. Oh wait, most of y’all are happy voting for Hillary Clinton :)
Albeit politically futile (the choices that you have listed), there is absolutely a place for protest voting or as you call it “voting your conscience.” In fact, convincing people that their vote is meaningless (or can never align with their moral principles) is heinous and malicious.
Healthy commonwealths subsist only insomuch as good people continue to promote and make good decisions. If you think the person becomes the President of the United States is more important than the array of moral choices we have as individuals (in our relationships with each other), you simply lack education.
When you have no further remedy, you make an appeal to God. I suppose if you lack God, then everything else is meaningless anyways.
Political moralism, as we have lived it and are still living it, does not open the way to regeneration, and even more, also blocks it. The same is true, consequently, also for a Christianity and a theology that reduces the heart of Jesus’ message, the “kingdom of God,” to the “values of the kingdom,” identifying these values with the great key words of political moralism, and proclaiming them, at the same time, as a synthesis of the religions.
