Binghamton City School District Provides Distinguished Programs

A career-long teacher and administrator in Connecticut and New York public schools, Dr. Marion H. Martinez most recently served as the superintendent of the Binghamton City School District (BCSD). In this position, she created a forward-thinking strategic plan which included a district plan and individual school improvement plans. This provided a blueprint for action and a vision going into the future.

Reporting publically the progress on the strategic plan was critically important. It served to keep the community informed and also served as motivation for staff. Each subsequent strategic plan was built on the progress made the year before. The Board of Education goals served as the foundation for the plan.

Each year administrators presented their school improvement plans to the Board for discussion of progress. The superintendent reported on the district’s plan.
