Connecticut State Department of Education Focuses on Student Success

Dr. Marion H. Martinez is an experienced educator and school administrator has worked for many years in New York and Connecticut in a variety of educational positions. Starting her career as a middle school teacher, Dr. Marion H. Martinez recently served as the superintendent of schools for Binghamton City Schools. Prior to this role, she was the associate commissioner for teaching, learning, and instructional leadership for the Connecticut State Department of Education.

Responsible for providing leadership to three bureaus, she also disbursed and managed grant funding to 166 school districts. The department operates as the administrative branch of the Connecticut State Board of Education, which has 13 members who are appointed by the governor with the permission of the General Assembly. Dr. Marion Martinez and members of her division frequently presented before the State Board of Education.
