An immoral dilemma
You know your moral position is suspect when you ask a colleague to do something you wouldn’t do yourself.
Last week our Prime Minister Turnbull spoke with President Trump and asked if he would honour a commitment to take and resettle our detained asylum seekers.
Here was I thinking that the transportation of unwanted people ceased in the 19th Century.
Why can’t we settle these detainees here? Isn’t the deterrence principle compromised if we say to would-be asylum seekers “Don’t catch a boat to Australia because we will send you to the USA.”?
How would Turnbull have reacted if Trump replied
”We will decide who will come to this country and the circumstances in which they come.”
