I was certainly over-simplifying here to make a point about the importance of feedback as opposed to summative assessments David, but you are right. I would say, however, that I imagine there would be a great deal of variance in what people would say the role of the teacher is — what do you think it is?

In reading your latest post, I would infer that you see the teacher’s role to be that of growing ‘expert learners’, but this is my reading of it. How would you define it? I’m not pushing back here, I am truly interested. I really believe that we do not reflect on this question (and this one: what is the purpose of education?) enough, and that the lack of alignment between purpose, practice, and student experience is a large part of what makes systemic change fraught with roadblocks.
