Responsibilities and expectations for various roles within a VC firm

Through out my professional career I’ve benefited from the guidance of many mentors so I do my best to pay mentoring forward. As such I often speak with people interested to enter the venture capital profession as well as analysts, associates and principles at other VC firms. Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of questions related to the following.

1- what does it take to launch a venture firm 2- what does it take to become a general partner at a venture firm 3- What are the roles and responsibilities of the people on an investment team at a venture firm

I’m also all about efficiency and saving time so I created the below table as an attempt to answer those questions and share with a broad audience. Its important to know that all venture capital firms are not the same so some of these roles don’t exist as distinct positions within all firms. For example, at Cross Culture Ventures, the firm that I co-founded, we only have general partners, a venture partner and MBA associates as members of our investment team. Hopefully this table proves useful for some people.
