Be relieved. Be happy. #Trumpcare and #SkinnyRepeal failed.
But don’t get complacent and don’t get cocky or it’s 2010 all over again.

One post today.
Collins and Murkowski, with the help of John McCain, put this “Skinny Bill” thing out of our misery.

And while I’m glad and surprised McCain did the right thing — giving him some sort of standing ovation and not recognizing that these other female senators were threatened (metaphorically, physically AND politically) is absurd. The fact I can’t really meta-tag them in this piece is also absurd.

And last night is NOT how Democracy can work. It was a glaring example of just how broken the system is right now.
Regardless, people’s lives were saved yesterday. It’s ludicrous that THAT is the victory, but it’s a victory nonetheless.
Still: The GOP is still going to go after the Social Safety net, Voting Rights, Reproductive Rights, and yes… Healthcare. And they are always one or two votes away from VP Supercuts creeping in and casting the deciding vote for the wrong side of history.
The right plays the long game and keeps trying to knock off the things that make America America. They will not give up on this, or anything else they’ve been trying to take from us for years. They see this as their moment.
It’s the only reason Trump hasn’t been impeached yet.
So while we can celebrate, we can’t get cocky. This cannot be 2010 all over again where everybody relaxes after a win.
There’s still a corrupt lunatic in the White House, a totally complicit house and a marginally less complicit Senate.

And 15 months until the next election.
So much damage can be still be done.
This is the end of one fight and the beginning of another. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again:
Take the breath. Take the moment.
Then come back next week, because it will start all over again. Repeating indefinitely until at least one branch of this government will act as a check and balance.
Because (Addendum to piece) — this just posted:
Have a good Friday, everybody. Back to the battle Monday. Or tomorrow. Or later today.
