Obama doesn’t owe us anything.
It starts with, again, another NY Times piece. Maybe it’s light-hearted but then again, I haven’t been feeling very light-hearted about politics of late.

Where is he? After 8 years of tea party nonsense, birtherism and now watching the systematic dismantling of his achievements by our Dumpster-Fire-In-Chief? That’s nobody’s business but his.
President Obama did his best, suffered a torrent of disrespect, and we failed him in 2016 miserably. Leave him be.
Meanwhile… the dirtbags are crawling out from their rocks. MORE birthers. This idiot in Idaho claiming Obama could have “staged” Charlottesville.

And you think President Obama needs to wade into that again? For what? What have we done to deserve that?
Hillary speaks up and is hammered for it… And she was RIGHT about Trump.
For everyone saying “Somebody has to stand up?” People are trying: Kamala Harris speaks and gets hammered for it. Cory Booker speaks and he gets hammered for it.
Obama made us proud, did the job. If he speaks, it’s a gift. It certainly isn’t owed.
America lit its own dumpster fire after @BarackObama. America can put it out. If we can’t, that’s on us.
He tried. We failed.
I hope President Obama’s days are filled with family, joy, and things he loves. I’m not going to be the one to press him into being a human shield against our national stupidity.
Yes someone must rise to beat back Trump. All of us, AS ONE.
And yes, there must be leaders who are willing to step into the fray: It would be nice if they could do it without being maligned by people who share nearly all of the same views, or having to re-litigate 2016.
But as for our last legitimate President? His wife? His kids? People who lived and breathed family values and got vilified regardless? We as a nation need to step up and show that we wouldn’t be wasting his time… again.
But if all President Obama wants to do is this:

…He’s earned that.
